CAA protests: Section 144 imposed near Red Fort

Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Section 144 has been imposed near Red Fort in old Delhi amid the nation-wide protests against new Citizenship law. The Delhi Police barricaded roads and imposed traffic restrictions to clamp down on planned protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). As per Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, more than four people can't assemble in the said area.

Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur was also present in the meeting. The consultation meeting was held in connection with the forthcoming Union Budget 2020-21.

CAA protests: Security beefed up in Karnataka after imposition of Sec-144 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 19 (ANI): Security has been beefed up across Karnataka, as some organisations (Left parties and Muslim organizations) called for a 'bandh' in the state to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Section 144 has been imposed throughout Bengaluru including rural Districts. Police has been deployed at Bengaluru's Town Hall area also.

Tourists in Rajouri ecstatic as weather turns snowy

Rajouri (Jand K), Dec 19 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri received heavy snowfall. Dehra Ki Gali area was covered with thick layer of white sheet. Tourists were seen enjoying the snowy weather and were seen playing with snow. Several parts of North India have received heavy snowfall which resulted in intensified cold waves.

Counter-terrorism, economics discussed during 2+2 dialogue with India: US State Dept Spokesperson

Washington DC (USA), Dec 19 (ANI): The second 2+2 Dialogue between India and US was held at the United States. US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that counter-terrorism, economics, trade and security were few of the highlights of the Dialogue. Morgan said, "This is only the second time that we have 2+2 Dialogue between India and US and this is the first time it is being held in the United States. It shows the significance of the US bilateral relationship with India that we were able to have this conversation. India is someone credibly important to us in a number of institutions around the world and the relationship is very important in the President Trump's Indo-Pacific strategy." Speaking on the highlights, she said, "We have a number of issues as it relates to counter-terrorism, economics, trade, security and then what's most important is that world's oldest and world's largest democracies talk on a range of these issues."

Equity indices open marginally lower, Yes Bank falls by 2.8 pc

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices were in the negative zone amid uncertainty in global markets after the US House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power. At 10:15 am, the BSE SandP Sensex was down by 61 points to 41,497 while the Nifty 50 slipped by 18 points at 12,204. Sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were mixed with Nifty bank, financial service, IT, metal and realty in the red. Among stocks, Yes Bank lost by 2.78 per cent to trade at Rs 45.45 per share. ICICI Bank fell by 1.1 per cent and IndusInd Bank by 0.8 per cent. Metal major like Tata Steel and Hindalco too were down by about 1 per cent. The other losers included Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy's GAIL and HDFC. However, those which showed some gains were Bharti Infratel, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors and Tata Motors. AISF stops train in Patna to protest against CAA, NRC

Patna (Bihar) / Darbhanga (Bihar), Dec 19 (ANI): All India Students Federation (AISF) members stopped train at Rajendra Nagar railway station as a part of their protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Meanwhile, CPI-M workers also blocked railway track at Laheriasarai railway station in Darbhanga against CAA and NRC. Protests intensified in the nation against the new Citizenship Act since the day the bill got assent of President Ram Nath Kovind after getting cleared by the Parliament.

Delhiites reel under chilly winters as cold waves intensify

2008 Jaipur bomb blasts case: Special court convicts 4 accused, 1 acquitted

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Dec 19 (ANI): Four accused in 2008 Jaipur bomb blasts case were convicted by a special court on December 18. On the other hand, one of accused was acquitted. The accused were convicted under different sections of laws including Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). About 80 people were killed and more than hundred were injured in blasts where 8 explosions took place on May 13, 2008.

Vijayvargiya blames Mamata for mob disrupting convoy in Murshidabad

Murshidabad (WB), Dec 18 (ANI): BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Wednesday said that his convoy was stopped and surrounded by a mob in the nawagaon area while on the way to attend a programme in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. Speaking to media, Vijayvargiya called the incident a deliberate attempt to stop the convoy from visiting the district and alleged that the mob acted on the directives of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. "On my way to Murshidabad, several goons surrounded our car in nawagaon area. I was not allowed to go to a programme that I had to attend. There was an attempt to stop us, on directions of Mamata Banerjee. I condemn this," Vijayvargiya told media persons.

CAA protest row: Section 144 imposed in North-East Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Section 144 has been imposed in North-East Delhi. Joint commissioner of Delhi's north-eastern range, Alok Kumar said, "We want to give a message that strict actions will be taken against those who try to disrupt law and order in the area. Section 144 has been imposed. Situation is completely under control and peaceful". Police also held a flag march in Mustafabad and Ghonda areas on December 18. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RPF) are also being deployed in the different areas. Police is also doing video-graphing through drone cameras in the sensitive areas. On the other side, the police investigation is underway on violent protests, which took place on Tuesday (December 17).

CAA protest row: Kamal Haasan reaches Madras University to meet students, denied permission to enter the premises

Chennai, Dec 18 (ANI): Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan reached Madras University to meet students, who are protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 in Tamil Nadu. However, he didn't get the entry inside the university. "I am not allowed to go inside. Till I die, I will call myself a student, I have come here in capacity to be their defender," said Makkal Needhi Maiam chief, Kamal Haasan. He further added, "As I am a political leader also, it's my duty to be here and voice. However, later he talked to the students at the entry gate only.
