Akola (Maharashtra), Oct 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Maharashtra ahead of Assembly polls in the state. Addressing the rally, PM Modi said, "Yeh Veer Savarkar ke hi sanskar hain jo rashtrawad ko humnein rashtra nirman ke mool mein rakha hai". Targeting Opposition over criticism of revocation of Article 370, PM Modi said, "For political gains, some are openly saying that Article 370 has nothing to do in Maharashtra Assembly Polls, that JandK has nothing to do with Maharashtra. I want to tell such people that JandK and its people are also sons of Maa Bharti only." Reminiscing over past terror attacks in Maharashtra, PM said, "At one time, there were regular incidents of terrorism and hatred in Maharashtra. The culprits got away, and settled in different countries. India wants to ask the people who were in power then, how did all of this happen? How did they escape?"
New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): While speaking on terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "Terrorism got revived ever since BJP came into power at the centre because they couldn't handle the situation, they had no clue about the JandK politics except the sloganeering. In JandK, militancy is on rise because of the mishandling of affairs by BJP government".
Mumbai, Oct 16 (ANI): Punjab and Maharashtra Bank (PMC) depositors held protest outside Esplanade Court on October 16. City's Economic Offences Wing DCP Shrikant Paropkari addressed PMC depositors protesting outside Esplanade Court. He said, "No guilty person will be spared. You can come and meet me everyday. We will try our best to ensure that your money is returned to you." Last month, the Reserve Bank of India restricted the activities of the PMC Bank for six months and asked it to not grant or renew any loans and advances, make any investment or incur any liability, including borrowing of funds and acceptance of fresh deposits.
New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): Five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi begins hearing in the Ayodhya Ram Temple-Babri Masjid land case in Supreme Court on October 16. Today is the 40th day of hearing in the case. CJI Ranjan Gogoi has refused to take any intervention application in the case. CJI Ranjan Gogoi while dismissing intervention application of one of the parties Hindu Maha Sabha in Ayodhya land case, said, "This matter is going to be over by 5 pm today. Enough is enough." The 16th century Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992. The top court had recently said that it would wrap up hearing in the case on October 17, a day earlier than it was scheduled to. The judgment is likely to be passed on November 4-5.
Srinagar, Oct 16 (ANI): Speaking to mediapersons on the matter of killing of Rajasthan truck drive in Jammu and Kashmir by terrorist group, Indian Army Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, GOC-Chinar Corps said, "I would like to assure the farmers in Kashmir that all possible security will be provided, they will be allowed to reap the harvest, they will be allowed to sell their fruits to whomsoever they want to. I would assure security to all farmers in Kashmir, it'll be provided by the state. It is our responsibility."
Gaya (Bihar), Oct 16 (ANI): A police official was caught on camera accepting bribe in Bihar's Gaya. The video went viral. The police official in question is identified as Officer-In-Charge of Panchayati Akhara Town Outpost Ranjan Kumar Yadav. While speaking on the matter, Gaya SSP, Rajeev Mishra said, "On the basis of the video, the officer has been suspended. An investigation has been initiated, appropriate action to be taken."

Speaking to mediapersons after his meeting, he said, "I came to meet my father. He is in good spirits. Whatever these procedural games are being played are for political theatrics. This is a bogus investigation." Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials went to Tihar Jail on October 16 to interrogate Congress leader P Chidambaram. On October 15, a special court had allowed 3 ED officials to interrogate P Chidambaram in INX media money laundering case. Currently, he is in judicial custody.
Patna (Bihar), Oct 16 (ANI): Nitin Navin, BJP MLA from Bankipur, have been tested positive for dengue, says, "I would like to appeal to all the people to take precautions. The administration should take immediate steps to control the spread of disease." After floods in several parts of the state, the threat of dengue is on rise in the region. As per the state health department, as many as 900 dengue cases have been registered in Patna since September.

According to Air Quality Index (AQI), major pollutants PM 2.5 and PM 10 for October 17 were shown at 233 and 234 respectively. In the video, the inmates are also seen using mobile phones. One of them is heard saying the jail authorities on the pretext of providing VIP treatment ask for money from the inmates.
Udhampur (J and K), Oct 16 (ANI): National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) helped water deprived region Channi Mansar Panchayat of Udhampur. It provided agricultural skills, watershed project and social strength to the village. The 'watershed' project was started in the village to solve water deficiency problem. The entire project aimed at soil and water conservation measures. It also opened doors of employment to locals. After Samba, Udhampur became the second district to receive the scheme of NABARD.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials reached Tihar Jail to interrogate Congress leader P Chidambaram on October 16. Yesterday, a special court had allowed three ED officials to interrogate P Chidambaram in INX media money laundering case. Currently, he is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail and case is probed by CBI. Meanwhile, his son Karti Chidambaram and wife Nalini Chidambaram also reached Tihar Jail. INX Media case refers to an ongoing high-profile money laundering investigation in India and involves allegation of irregularities in foreign exchange clearances given to INX Media group.
Manipur (Imphal), Oct 16 (ANI): A suspected object was spotted inside the office of Panthoibi Housing Finance Co. at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai in Manipur, last night. It was detected as a remote controlled IED by Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. It was safely disarmed by the team. A case is filed and further investigation is underway.
Virar (Maharashtra), Oct 16 (ANI): A 4-year-old girl lost her life after a portion of a building collapsed in Virar city of Maharashtra on October 15. The girl is believed to have been playing in the balcony on the third floor when a portion of the common balcony collapsed. The debris is believed to have hit her before a portion of it came crashing on the ground floor.
Aligarh (UP), Oct 16 (ANI): A student committed suicide by hanging himself near Mumtaz Hall of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police, Akash Kulhari told that they had sent the body for postmortem. However, police said that the situation is under control. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an aerospace scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and aerospace engineering.
