Navratri festival: Devotees throng temples on 'Durga Ashtami'

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Oct 06 (ANI): Navratri is a Hindu festival where nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. The festival celebrates Goddess Durga's triumph over 'Asura'. On the eighth day of Navratri on October 06, devotees thronged temples in the national capital on occasion of 'Durga Ashtami' to seek blessings of the almighty on the auspicious occasion. Jhandewalan temple was decked up with full decoration as people gathered to attend the first 'Aarti' of the nine-day-long festivities. During these nine days, devotees observe fast and perform puja. In Mumbai, Kakad Aarti was performed at Shree Mumbadevi Temple today.

Teacher sacked for smoking in class in UP's Sitapur

Sitapur (UP), Oct 06 (ANI): A teacher of a primary school was sacked after a video of him smoking cigarette in class went viral. The incident is from Mahmudabad area of UP's Sitapur district. While speaking on the issue, Basic Shiksha Adhikari Ajay Kumar said, "We authenticated the video and have suspended the teacher."

Bajrang Dal, BJP bearers caught spying for ISI: Digvijaya Singh

Gwalior (MP), Oct 06 (ANI): Senjior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has said that some office bearers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bajrang Dal were caught syping for the Pakistan intelligence agency ISI. "Some people, who were office bearers of BJP and Bajrang Dal were caught spying for the ISI. They have received bail but a case of treason should be pursued against them," said Singh while addressing a press conference.

Medical apathy! Pregnant woman dies after ambulance runs out of fuel in Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj (Odisha), Oct 06 (ANI): In another case of medical apathy in country, a pregnant woman died on her way to hospital allegedly after the ambulance carrying her ran out of fuel. The incident took place in Odisha's Mayurbhanj. Reportedly, the woman was admitted to Bangiriposhi Hospital initially. Later, she was being shifted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) in Baripada when she lost her life on the way. She was rushed to PRMMCH via another ambulance but the doctors declared her brought dead. The case is under investigation.

Transgender community celebrates Durga Puja in Kolkata

Instagram tests AR-based shopping experience

New Delhi, Oct 06 (ANI): Instagram has launched a pilot that uses Facebook's Spark AR platform to digitally try on items users want to purchase through the image-sharing service. As Engadget reports, Instagram users can now digitally try on eyewear from Ray-Ban and Warby Parker, and cosmetics from MAC and NARS through the feature. Users can also experiment with different colours and models. The feature is accessible from feed posts as well as shop pages and stories.

4 injured after DTC bus loses control in Mayapuri

New Delhi, Oct 06 (ANI): At least 4 people were injured after a DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) bus hit them in Mayapuri area of Delhi. One of the injured is in critical condition. Driver of the bus has been arrested. He alleged that brakes of the bus failed when the incident happened. All the injured have been admitted to hospital.

Gujarat woman jumps from building, falls on senior citizen; both die

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Oct 5 (ANI): A woman in Amraiwadi area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad landed on a senior citizen after jumping from a building to commit suicide. Both the woman and the senior citizen died on the spot. The incident took place on October 4. Speaking to ANI, a police official said, "The man had gone for a morning walk when the woman fell on him. Both woman and man died on the spot. The woman was mentally distressed and was under medication. The victim identified as Mamta was a resident of Surat." "After the enquiry we will carry out the investigation," he added.

15-member NC delegation to meet Farooq, Omar Abdullah tomorrow, says party leader

Jammu (JandK), Oct 05 (ANI): National Conference (NC) leader Devender Rana said that Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has granted permission to party's 15-member delegation to meet top leaders - Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah - who are currently under house arrest in Srinagar. "We have got the confirmation that a delegation will be allowed to meet Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. A 15-member delegation of NC leaders, all of them former legislators, is going to Srinagar tomorrow morning," said Rana. The centre's decision to put leaders inside the house had come when it was about to strike off the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two union territories on Aug 05.

Not registered any case: Govt on FIR against 49 celebrities who wrote to PM on 'mob lynching'

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, clarified that the government has no role to play in the FIR against 49 celebrities who had wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against 'growing' mob violence. "Government has not registered any case," Javadekar said in Lucknow where he held a press conference. The letter raised the concern of increasing cases of mob lynching in the country. Recently, an FIR has registered against those 49 celebrities for 'tarnishing the image of the country and undermining the impressive performance of the prime minister.

Bihar floods: Patna continues to suffer as flooded roads become new normal in city

Patna (Bihar), Oct 05 (ANI): Patna braced for another day of hardships as roads in the city remained waterlogged. Heavy rainfall and waterlogged roads in Patna and its nearby regions have troubled the locals for last many days. BSF conducts awareness program about drones in Jammu's border villages

Jammu (JandK), Oct 05 (ANI): Border Security Force has initiated an awareness program about drones among villagers who reside in border areas of Jammu. Security forces also visited several schools to make students aware about the drill when they notice drones in their locality. The program has been initiated after drones were seen in border areas of Punjab. It was reported that Pakistan used drones to drop arms and ammunition and spy on Indian side of the border. "This will be helpful for us as now if any drones come from Pakistan border, we can directly inform BSF," a local said.

Aarey protest: 29 people arrested under various sections of IPC

Mumbai, Oct 05 (ANI): At least 29 people have been arrested so far in Aarey protest case. They are arrested under various sections of IPC for disturbing public order and obstructing government officials from performing their duties. Also, an activist was seen hugging a tree at the entry into Aarey Colony where Section 144 has been imposed. Meanwhile, felling of trees is underway at Aarey Colony. Bombay HC dismissed all petitions against BMC decision which allowed felling of over 2700 trees for the construction of a metro car shed.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): Union Minister of Environment, Prakash Javadekar supported the proposed metro shed in Aarey forest area and said that development and environment protection should be go together. He said, "Bombay High Court has ruled that it's not a forest. When the first Delhi metro station was to be constructed, 20-25 trees were to be cut, people had protested then too, but for each tree cut, five trees were planted. In Delhi, 271 metro stations have been made and tree cover has also increased. This is the mantra of development and protecting the environment. Both should go together." People are protesting against the felling of 2700 trees of Aarey Forest in Mumbai.
