Rajouri (J-K), Aug 29 (ANI): Life gradually returned to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri. Mobile network services have restarted. People came out of their houses to buy vegetables and other household things. Children were seen going to schools and traffic also moved normally. Central government on August 05 scrapped Article 370 that took away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir as a state.
Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Aug 29 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off eco-friendly vehicle event in Gujarat's Ahmedabad on August 29. He also took part in plantation drive. Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani was also present there. Hundreds of people participated in the drive. Amit Shah is an MLA from Gujarat's Gandhinagar.
Wayanad (Kerala), Aug 29 (ANI): Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi met flood-affected people at St Claret School in Vythiri on August 29. Students of the school were also present. Rahul is in Wayanad to visit relief camps and review rehabilitation work in the area.
Leh (Ladakh), Aug 29 (ANI): Leh remembered the bravehearts of Union Territory agitation of 1989 by paying rich tributes at the martyrs' memorial park -- Skyatsaks Leh - in Leh on August 27. The day was observed in Leh to pay homage to those people who were killed on this day in 1989 in police firing as an agitation lunched in support of the long-pending demand of Union Territory for Ladakh. Various leaders attended the function. Recently, Parliament abrogated Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and reorganising the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir with Assembly and Ladakh without legislature.
New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury left for Srinagar from Delhi Airport on August 29. Supreme Court gave Yechury the permission to visit Jammu and Kashmir on August 28. He will meet his party leader Yousuf Tarigami in Srinagar. While speaking to ANI, he said, "I am going to meet my party leader Yousuf Tarigami."
Balrampur (UP), Aug 29 (ANI): Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath visited Shaktipeeth Pateshwari Devi Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur on August 29. He offered prayers at the temple. CM Yogi also fed the cows after 'puja'. Yogi Adityanath is 22nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju paid tribute to hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905. India celebrates National Sports Day to honour Dhyan Chand, who won gold medal thrice in Olympics.
Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 29 (ANI): A man attempting to abduct an 8-year-old boy was captured by family of the boy. The family took him to the police and filed a complaint, after which he was arrested. Aligarh ASP, Abhishek said, "The accused is in police custody, interrogation is going on. Further investigation is underway."
Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Aug 29 (ANI): The School and Mass Education Department of Odisha has planned to introduce a system to improve learning outcome of students of government schools. Teachers will now get appraisal on the basis of their performance. School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said, "We'll take feedback from the students. In every classroom, there'll be a register in which teacher will have to enter the time of their entry and exit, topics that they taught in the class, and the number of students present in their class."
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Aug 29 (ANI): National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at five locations in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. Laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards and pen-drives were also seized. Further details are awaited.
Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 29 (ANI): As the holy festival of Ganesha Chaturthi is approaching, Mangaluru-based Nithin Vaj has made Lord Ganesha idol from eco-friendly paper-pulp and seeds. While speaking to ANI, he said, "We've not used toxic paints or any other toxic materials. This idol is embedded with vegetable seeds and fruit seeds. It'll grow into a plant after it is dissolved in water".
Meerut (UP), Aug 29 (ANI): Two youth sustained bullet injuries amid a clash between two groups at Chaudhary Charan Singh University on Aug 28, when students were prepping up for the visit of UP Minister Ashok Kataria to the University. Police official said, "Probe is underway. Injured students aren't a part of this University."
Ballia (UP), Aug 29 (ANI): In an unusual incident, some students of Govt primary school in Ballia's Rampur village are bringing plates from their home for mid-day meals. They bring plates to eat separately from SC/ST and Dalit students. "Anyone can eat in the plates available in schools, so we bring separate plates from home," said a student. School Principal P Gupta said, "We ask students to sit together and eat but they go separate ways as soon as we leave. Maybe they've learnt it from home. We've tried a lot to teach that they're equals but students from upper caste try to stay away from those of lower-caste."
Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Aug 29 (ANI): As Ganesha Chaturthi approaches, a group of volunteers are gearing up to showcase biggest eco-friendly Ganesha idol towering 46-ft-tall in Odisha's Bhubaneswar. Volunteers have named the idol as 'Dashavatara' Ganesha. 'Ladoo' weighing 50-kg will be served as 'prasada' during the festival.
Ghaziabad (UP), Aug 29 (ANI): 202 cartons of liquor were recovered by police from a bus in Ghaziabad's Muradnagar. Two smugglers were arrested. The smugglers were taking the liquor from Haryana to Rajasthan. One of their accomplices is absconding. Police investigation is underway.
Jajpur (Odisha), Aug 29 (ANI): Around 8-feet-long Indian rock python was rescued from Odisha's Jajpur. It was found in an open field in Kayema Bazar area of Jajpur. Python was later released into the forest.
Srinagar (J-K), Aug 28 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik announced 50,000 jobs in state administration on August 28. While addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Governor said, "We today announce 50,000 jobs in J-K administration, we will appeal to the youth to get involved with full vigour, in coming two to three months we will fill these positions."
Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Aug 28 (ANI): A girl went missing days after accusing former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Swami Chinmayanand Maharaj of harassing her in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur. In Uttarakhand's Haridwar, Swami Chinmayanand evaded question of mediapersons and said, "I respect you all (press) and still you aren't listening to me. I don't want to say anything to the press." Chinmayanand is the director of the Swami Shukdevanand Law College in Shahjahanpur, where the girl was studying. On August 23, she had posted a video on social media alleging that BJP leader is threatening to kill her as she has some evidence against him. The girl has been untraceable since August 24. Her parents have filed a missing complaint with the police and have blamed the college director and BJP leader for it. Swami Chinmayanand was a minister of state (MoS) for internal security in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
Srinagar (J-K), Aug 28 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik slammed the political leaders who are against abolishment of Article 370. On being asked about congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Governor said, "He acted like a political juvenile on the matter. In coming elections, people will beat them with boots who were in favour of Article 370."
Bengaluru, Aug 28 (ANI): After a number of Congress leaders including Jairam Ramesh talked of constructive criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior party leader and former union minister Veerappa Moily cautioned party members to not make any statement which will "demoralise" the grand old party. "Any leader including Jairam Ramesh shouldn't make any such statements which will demoralise the rank and file of Congress party especially when Rahul Gandhi ji is fighting for the cause of the party and also against policies of the present government," Moily told ANI.
