PM Modi discusses strategies on boosting economy amid coronavirus lockdown

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a comprehensive meeting to give boost to the economy against backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic on April 30. The aim of the meeting was to discuss strategies on boosting foreign investments into India as well as to promote local investments. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, MoS Finance Anurag Thakur and others have attended the meeting. The nation is under lockdown till May 03 due to coronavirus pandemic.

Modalities being finalised for inter-state travel of stranded citizens: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): After Government of India issued new guidelines to provide travel allowance to migrant workers, students, pilgrims among others, Delhi Police PRO, MS Randhawa said the Delhi Government is finalising modalities for movement of people of other states. Randhawa said, "Government of India has issued guidelines regarding movement of migrant labourers, students, pilgrims and tourists. Regarding it, Delhi Government and Police are finalising modalities for movement of people of other states. We are in touch with resident commissioners of different states. People will need to register themselves for the travel. I want to appeal to all these people to pay attention to any social media post until we make a plan for travelling. Please don't pay heed to rumours. We will take action against such people who'll spread rumours."

Centre should take responsibility for rehabilitation of migrant workers: Kerala Finance Minister

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Apr 30 (ANI): Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said the central government should take responsibility of interstate and international migrant workers for their rehabilitation and relief. "The central government should come out with a package for interstate and international migrant workers for their rehabilitation and relief. Center should take their responsibility as it comes under the union list," Isaac said. Meanwhile, the Kerala government introduced an ordinance through which salaries of government employees can be deferred by up to 25 percent to a future date. Isaac said, "We have introduced an ordinance through which salaries of government employees can be deferred by upto 25 percent to a future date, which has to be declared within 6 months by government, at times of nationally accepted natural calamity or health emergency."

Bollywood in shock over death of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): Legendary and versatile actor Rishi Kapoor's death has send shockwaves among the film fraternity, and many of them expressed grief on the unfortunate demise of the 67-year-old actor. Bollywood stalwarts including Salman Khan, Amir Khan took to Twitter to express condolences after Amitabh Bachchan broke the news of Kapoor's death. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai said it the "biggest sad day" for him. Parineeti Chopra also termed Rishi Kapoor as his "favourite co-star ever". Johny Lever was also "deeply saddened" with the death of Rishi Kapoor. The week has been worst for Bollywood as global star Irrfan Khan too bid an adieu to life on April 29 after battling cancer for two years.

Migrant worker hoping to go home-state Bihar on bicycle finds hurdle at Haryana border

Faridabad (Haryana), Apr 30 (ANI): A migrant worker moving towards his hometown Bihar on a bicycle was stopped at Delhi-Faridabad border on April 30. "My brother has passed away and I want to go home now. It will take 8-10 days to reach my home but I want to go there," said the migrant worker while crying. "After I allowed a person to cross the border two more labourers have come here. The first person was allowed to leave after he showed us death certificate of his brother, It is not clear if this person's reason to cross the border is genuine," said ACP Faridabad , Adarshdeep Singh.

Will resolve it soon: Satyendar Jain on health workers not allowed through Delhi-Haryana border

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): Amid COVID-19 lockdown, health workers and those rendering essential services are also not being allowed through Delhi-Haryana border, as most of the border areas between Delhi and Haryana have been sealed. Speaking on this, Delhi's Health minister Satyendar Jain said the Delhi government is in contact with Haryana government and he assured that the issue will be resolved soon. "Total cases in Delhi are 3439. We have received 125 fresh cases yesterday. 52 people are in ICU and 9 on ventilator, no new containment zone has been made in Delhi. There are 100 containment zones. The state has responsibility to bring them back. We are in contact with the Haryana government the issue will be resolved soon," said Jain.

New Delhi, Cuttack (Odisha), Apr 30 (ANI): The Industrial Training Institute in Cuttack has developed a robot, with help of SakRobotix Lab Pvt. Ltd. to help health workers in containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Union Cabinet Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendra Nath Pandey said, "Such service robots will help health workers. We need to encourage such innovations."

Social media mourn loss of versatile actor Rishi Kapoor

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): As Actor Amitabh Bachchan announces on Twitter that veteran actor Rishi Kapoor has passed away, the social media flooded out with condolences and tributes to versatile actor. From Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar to former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah shared their condolences. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and All India Mahila Congress took twitter to expresses their grief and shock for bad news. In 1973, Rishi Kapoor made his film debut as an adult, with Bobby, opposite Dimple Kapadia. The first film made Kapoor an overnight star and gave the country a new hero. The actor's last Bollywood film was the 2018 film 102 Not Out alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Rishi Kapoor's passed away peacefully in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.

India needs Rs 65,000 crore to help needy during COVID crisis: Raghuram Rajan

New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan said that Rs 65,000 crore is required to help the poor affected by the coronavirus-induced lockdown. He also laid stress on the need to restart the economy while taking precautions. Rajan's remarks came during his interaction with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, via video conference, on the economic crisis looming over India. "Our GDP is 200 lakh crores, and out of that 65,000 crore is not a huge amount. So, we can do it. If this is for the poor and to save their lives and livelihood, we must do it." Speaking on opening up the economy, Rajan said: "We have to start thinking about restarting people's livelihood," said Rajan.

COVID-19 lockdown: Migrant workers from Maharashtra stopped from entering MP

COVID-19: Punjab Police ask lockdown violators to do sit-ups for loafing around

Amritsar (Punjab), Apr 30 (ANI): Punjab Police has come up with innovative ideas to teach lesson to people flouting COVID-19 lockdown. Violators are being told to do sit-ups as a punishment for violating rules amid lockdown. Police personnel were seen making a group to do exercise on the road. The violators were asked to raise their hands and simultaneously apologising for the offence. Punjab has reported a total of 322 cases of COVID-19, including 19 deaths.

Actor Rishi Kapoor passes away at 67

Mumbai, Apr 30 (ANI): Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor died at Mumbai's HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on April 30 the age of 67. Actor went to US for cancer treatment returned in September last year. After being diagnosed with an infection, Rishi Kapoor was admitted to hospital in Feb 2020. More details are awaited.
