New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): In a new study, researchers have developed a tool that will enable visually impaired people who find it difficult to understand memes, to enjoy them. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed a tool to automatically identify memes and apply prewritten templates to add descriptive alt text, making them intelligible via existing assistive technologies. Memes largely live within social media platforms that have barriers to adding alt text. Twitter, for example, allows people to add alt text to their images, but that feature isn't always easy to find. Of 9 million tweets the CMU researchers examined, one million included images and, of those, just 0.1 per cent included alt text. Gleason said basic computer vision techniques make it possible to describe the images underlying each meme, whether it be a celebrity, a crying baby, a cartoon character or a scene such as a bus upended in a sinkhole. Pune (Maharashtra), Dec 02 (ANI): Five people including fire brigade personnel were trapped in a hole in Pune. Fire brigade personnel had gone there to rescue a person who had fallen into the hole. The hole was dug for a drainage line in Dapodi area of Pune. Speaking on it, Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Shravan Hardikar said, "Fire brigade official Vishal Jadhav who had gone to rescue the man who was trapped, has been succumbed to injuries. Further investigation is underway."
Tonk (Rajasthan), Dec 02 (ANI): A six-year-old girl was raped and strangled to death at a village in Tonk district here, police said on Sunday. According to police, the incident took place on Saturday. "The body of a 6-year-old girl was brought to Saadad Hospital under Aligarh police station here today ... Prima facia, it looks like a case of sexual assault. The girl was strangulated to death with the belt she was wearing," said a police official. During initial investigation, police have received the information that a sports event was organised in the school of the victim after which she went missing. "The family of the minor was searching for her in the farmlands and at relatives' houses. They found the body of the minor in the bushes near a farmland today morning," said police official. Police said that a medical examination is being conducted. Further investigations are underway.
Khammam (Telangana), Dec 01 (ANI): A graduate student threatened to commit suicide by jumping off a building in Telangana's Khammam on December 01. He was demanding capital punishment for the accused persons who raped and killed the woman veterinarian. Soon local police arrived on the spot and rescued him. Later they handed him over to his parents. The 25-year-old veterinarian doctor, who works in a state-run hospital, was raped and killed on outskirts of the city on 26 November.

New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Three years after demonetisation and despite government's efforts to drive digital payments in India, more than 90 per cent of transactions are still made through cash, according to a new report by European payment services provider Worldline. In tier three and below cities, a case can be made that all transactions are made through cash. But the number of transactions done on mobile wallets in this quarter of this year was 104 crore, an increase of just five per cent over Q3 of the previous year.
New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Setting up a record, GST collections have registered a new high. The gross GST Revenue collection for November, 2019 is Rs 1,03,492 crore. CGST collection is Rs 19,592 crore, SGST is Rs 27,144 crore, IGST is Rs 49,028 crore (including Rs 20,948 crore collected on imports) and Cess is Rs 7,727 crore (including Rs 869 crore collected on imports). This comes after two months of negative growth. GST revenues have witnessed an impressive recovery with a positive growth.

Onions will begin arriving from late December or early January. 11000 MT is in addition to the 6,090 MT of onions arriving from Egypt in mid-December.
