Srinagar, Oct 26 (ANI): While speaking to media on increasing violence in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP) of JandK Dilbag Singh said, "JandK's economy is dependent on horticulture and tourism. Militants with support from Pakistan want to damage both. It is an attack on livelihood of people. We have identified the culprits and they will soon be brought to book." "Militants aim is to destroy the business of apple in JandK but, our main priority is that we should facilitate people. We have taken necessary steps in this regard," he added.

Indian Coast Guard rescues 5 fishermen from stranded boat near Karnataka's Karwar

Off-Karwar Coast (Karnataka), Oct 26 (ANI): Amartya, a ship of Indian Coast Guard, rescued five fishermen from stranded fishing boat near Karnataka's Karwar on October 25. BSF Jawans celebrate Diwali with kin and kith

Srinagar, Oct 26 (ANI): Diwali is around the corner and the whole nation is in festive mood. Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were seen celebrating 'festival of lights' with their friends and family in Srinagar. A 'Diwali mela' was organised where people took part in different activities with great fervour. The highlight of the 'mela' was the 'live orchestra'. Artists also gave a live dance performance in the 'Diwali Mela'. Diwali is a Hindu festival that symbolises spiritual 'victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance'.

'Ball is in BJP's court': Maharashtra LoP on Shiv Sena's '2.5 years CM' proposal

Mumbai, Oct 26 (ANI): Several Shiv Sena leaders gave proposal to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to run government in Maharashtra for 2.5 years each. No question of including Gopal Kanda in govt: Haryana Minister Anil Vij

2 injured after portion of footpath collapsed in Rajasthan's Sirohi

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (ANI): Union Law Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on October 26 said the BJP will form the government in Haryana with the support of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and independent MLAs, but clarified that controversial MLA Gopal Kanda will not be a part of the state government. RS Prasad added that there will be only one post of deputy chief minister, which will be from the JJP. Prasad further said the council of ministers will be decided by the Chief Minister.

Patented handicraft exhibition attracts tourists, locals in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Oct 26 (ANI): A three-day exhibition and sale of the patented products of the rural producers from the different corners of Himachal Pradesh has drawn the attention of tourists and locals in Shimla. All these products are geographical indicators (GI). Young producers, farmers and artists have joined hands to preserve and promote these GI products in the state. The Exhibition-cum-sale has been organised by Himachal Pradesh State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE). Each stall displays at least 7 GI products. These patented products include Kangra Tea, Chamba Rumal, Kullu Shawl, Kala Jeera, Kinnauri Shawl, Kinnaur Chulli Oil (Apricot oil) and Kangra painting. The organizers say that the objective is to introduce the patented products to the people and also to introduce and market the products by providing platform to the rural producers. Starting on October 23, the exhibition concluded on October 25.

Activists highlight poor condition of roads by fishing from water-filled pothole in Shivamogga

Shivamogga (Karnataka), Oct 26 (ANI): Members of Vidyarthi Sanghatane staged a protest condemning the poor condition of roads in Shivamogga. To attract the attention of the state government, the protesters planted saplings in potholes filled with rainwater. The roads in Durgigudi, Park Extension, Tilak Nagar, and Gandhi Nagar localities had developed potholes and craters due to heavy rains. The roads in many areas of the city are in a dilapidated condition, resulting in many mishaps on these stretches. The protesters demanded immediate repair work of the roads.
