New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Fire broke out on first and second floor of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Further investigation is underway.
Indore/ Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Aug 17 (ANI): 11 patients lost their eye sight after undergoing operation for cataract at Indore Eye Hospital. Treatment of all 11 patients has begun. Administration has been ordered to submit a report in 72 hours. Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Tulsi Silavat said, "Patients will be given best treatment. I've ordered to cancel the license of the hospital. Patients will be provided compensation of Rs 20,000. FIR to be registered against those found guilty of negligence. A seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter."
Chamba (HP), Aug 17 (ANI): Several houses and roads got damaged due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba. Some of the roads were completely damaged due to landslides, flash-floods in the region. People are facing hardships in commuting as normal life took a hit due to incessant rainfall.
Darjeeling (West Bengal), Aug 17 (ANI): A four-year-old dog lived up to his name by putting up a valiant fight to save his owner in West Bengal's Darjeeling. 'Tiger' saved his 58-year-old owner from leopard attack on August 14. Aruna Lama who is a resident of Sonada town in Darjeeling district opened the door of her storeroom and saw a leopard over there. In utter panic she tried shutting the door and could feel sharp claws of leopard attacking her. As she struggled to set herself free, 'Tiger' jumped to help her. While speaking to ANI, Aruna Lama's daughter said, "As my mother was making her way to ground floor of our house she noticed a pair of glowing eyes, then the leopard attacked her but Tiger (pet dog) saved my mother." The only casualty in the conflict was a chicken. 'Tiger' is a cross breed between Tibetan mastiff and a mongrel.
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Aug 17 (ANI): After 14-odd years, a rosy pelican hatched a young one at the Coimbatore Corporation VOC Park Zoo. The rosy pelican laid two eggs a month ago and hatched one of the two. The little bird is healthy and is under monitor. Lots of tourists flocked at the zoo to see the baby bird. As rosy pelicans were known to have low fertility rate, the staff took extra efforts to have a pelican hatchling in the Zoo.
New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Union Minister Jitendra Singh attended an event in Delhi on August 16 where he said that the democracy will come in Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370. Singh said, "We used to be taunted again and again and asked that why don't you follow the policy of Vajpayee ji? He was a good man. He used to speak of 'jamhuriyat', 'insaniyat', 'kashmiriyat'. They were dancing nearby the railway line in Mandapam area of Ramanathapuram district. Peacock is India's national bird and it has a crust like crown on its head. According to Hindu beliefs, peacock has religious significance as it is the ride of Kartikeya, elder son of Lord Shiva.

Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 17 (ANI): The lack of civic maintenance resulted in rainwater, mud and garbage entering homes in Karnataka's Mangaluru following incessant rains. Garbage from Pachanady dumping yard is entering in residential and agricultural areas of Mangaluru. Choked nallahs and culverts in Mangaluru are forcing the affected locals to seek shelter elsewhere. The residents said that the shoddy preparation for the monsoons by local authorities resulted in waterlogging.
Jammu/ Samba/ Udhampur (JandK), Aug 17 (ANI): Following days of restrictions, mobile internet services have been restored in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir on August 17. 2G mobile internet services have been restored in Jammu, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts of the region. Mobile internet services were suspended in Jammu on August 5, in view of security concerns in the region. The restrictions on the telecom services were continued in the wake of abrogation of Article 370. On August 16, the government had decided to lift restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir, in a phased and gradual manner. Samba (JandK), Aug 17 (ANI): Pakistan refugees living in JandK haven't got Indian citizenship till now. After abrogation of Article 370, more than 21,000 families will get citizenship. These families are happy after revoke of Article 370 which means Jammu and Kashmir is no more a special state. While speaking to ANI, one of the locals said that earlier we used to face loss due to it but now after abrogation of Article 370, we are happy. Another local said, "For 70 years, people used to call us Pakistani, now we will get the citizenship. We faced several problems as they used to call us West Pakistani but now our kids will also get their rights." Article 370 that used to give special status as state to Jammu and Kashmir was revoked in Parliament on August 05.
Jammu, Aug 17 (ANI): National general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ram Madhav addressed Jammu and Kashmir issues in Jammu on August 16. Ram Madhav said, "A Bill has been formed; by October end, laws will be formulated under it. After Oct 31, Jammu and Kashmir will stay a Union Territory with legislature for some time and like the Home Minister clarified in Parliament, as situation normalises it'll be granted full statehood. Delimitation of seats in Assembly here will have to be done again. There will be 114 seats here, 24 out of them are for PoK, they will stay vacant. Remaining 90 seats will be for the rest of Jammu and Kashmir." He further said, "There are groups here devoid of basic human rights. We know about Kashmiri Pandits who are forced to live as refugees in their own country. Rearrangement of their rights will be done. West Pakistan refugees are also here, their rights will also be given back to them."

Thimphu (Bhutan), Aug 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Paro International Airport in Bhutan's Thimpu on August 17. Vadodara (Gujarat), Aug 17 (ANI): As a mark of gratitude for helping the people of the district during the Vadodara floods, district collector organised a special Raksha Bandhan event for National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel where she along with some eminent citizens of the city tied Rakhi on the wrist of personnel who had participated in flood relief and rescue operations on August 16. Sharing details of the heartwarming initiative, Vadodara District Collector Shalini Agarwal told ANI, "NDRF personnel worked round the clock to rescue people during the time of the flood. Hyderabad, Aug 17 (ANI): A couple in Hyderabad has taken up unique initiative. They are building houses and other structures using sheets made up of processed plastic waste. While speaking to ANI, Prashant Lingam said, "In 2017, we saw a video where a bull was being operated and plastic was being removed from its stomach. Then, we started reading up on it." The couple researched about the use of plastics and after gathering information, they met experts to discuss about different use of plastic and came up with a substitute for plywood. "We met experts. Then after two years these sheets were ready and it is perfect substitute for plywood. We use these for making houses, furniture, benches, toilets, bus shelters etc. It is waterproof, heat-proof. Its life is 30-40 years just like any other conventional construction," Lingam added.
