New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): Indian weightlifters continued to proud India with their victories at the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games as Punam Yadav clinched a gold medal in the women's 69 kg weightlifting event on Day four of the quadrennial event here on Sunday. The 22-year-old from Varanasi lifted 100 kg in snatch and 122 kg in the clean and jerk category to finish with a total of 222 kg to make the country proud. In 2014, Yadav clinched a bronze medal in the same weight category at the 2014 Glasgow Games.
New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): India's winning spree continued in the shooting range with 16-year-old Manu Bhaker and seasoned campaigner Heena Sidhu clinching gold and silver in the women's 10m Air Pistol final on Day four of the quadrennial event here on Sunday. Bhaker fired a total of 240.9 to claim gold, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the category. On the other hand, Sidhu bagged silver with a total effort of 234. At present, India's medal tally reads six gold, two silver and one bronze. India currently ranks third in the medal tally with the nine medals.
New Delhi, Apr 07 (ANI): Indian weightlifter Sathish Kumar Sivalingam won gold in the men's 77 kg category on Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Sivalingam successfully lifted 173 kg in his second clean and jerk attempt to bring India yet another gold in weightlifting. He lifted a total of 317 kg to beat England's Jack Oliver, in what was a close fight. Sivalingam also became India's fifth weightlifter to win a medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

New Delhi, Apr 06 (ANI): Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu won India its second gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by outshining in the women's 53 kg category event at the Carrara Stadium on Friday. The 24-year-old set a new record in the game by lifting a total of 192 kgs which includes 84 kgs in snatch and 108 kgs in clean and jerk. Sanjita's Gold comes a day after her Manipuri teammate Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bagged country's first gold in the women's weightlifting 48 kg category event.
Lausanne (Switzerland), Apr 04 (AN): International Olympic Committee announced that seven cities have confirmed interest in hosting the 2026 Winter Games. Canada's Calgary, Austria's Graz, Swedish capital Stockholm, Sion in Switzerland, Turkey's Erzurum, Japan's Sapporo and a joint bid from Italy's Cortina d'Ampezzo, Milan and Turin are all in the initial process. Executive Director of IOC Olympic Games Christophe Dubi informed the same. The cities will now enter a dialogue stage until October when the IOC will invite an unspecified number of them to take part in the one-year candidature phase.

Nadal lost his top spot to his long-term rival Roger Federer when the latter defeated his Dutch opponent Robin Haase at Rotterdam Open to become the oldest world No. 1. The 16-time grand slam champion first ascended to the top spot nine-and-a-half years ago on August 18, 2008. Also, he has never lost his place in top 10 since April 2005. The 31-year-old has spent four previous stints at No. 1 - 46 weeks between August 18, 2008 and July 5, 2009, 56 weeks from June 7, 2010 to July 3, 2011, 39 weeks between October 7, 2013 and July 6, 2014 and 26 weeks from August 21, 2017 to February 18, 2018. New Delhi, Mar 28 (ANI): Former Australian skipper Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner have reportedly been handed a 12-month suspension by Cricket Australia (CA) for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal that took place during the third Test of the ongoing four-match series against South Africa in Cape Town. Meanwhile, Cameron Bancroft, the third member found guilty in Cricket Australia's internal investigation and the player, who actually tampered with the ball, has been imposed a suspension of nine months, cricket.com.au reported. Cricket Australia, however, is expected to officially confirm the announcement of their penalties later today. Earlier today, Warner had stepped down as the captain of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad in the aftermath of the massive ball-tampering scandal. Following the fiasco, Smith and Warner stood down as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
New Delhi, Mar 28 (ANI): After Cricket Australia (CA) announced the suspension of skipper Steve Smith, Vice-Captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft from the fourth Test against South Africa, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla said that the committee will talk to Sunrisers Hyderabad on their decision over Warner's captaincy. "I think we should be announcing our decision by tomorrow after looking at the decision of Cricket Australia. We are also going to talk to Sunrisers Hyderabad that they should also consider about Warner being the captain," Rajeev Shukla said.

New Delhi, Mar 18 (ANI): Bangladesh T-20 Captain Shakib Al Hasan and player Nurul Hasan have both been fined 25 per cent of their match fees and also received one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their side's T-20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Friday. Shakib was found to have breached Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 'conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game', while Nurul was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.2, which deals with 'conduct that brings the game into disrepute'. Both Shakib and Nurul pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
