Catalonia refuses to renounce its symbolic declaration of independence

Spain, Oct 18 (ANI): The leaders of Catalonia's two main separatist groups were put behind bars on Tuesday and the trial for sedition is pending as Spain's worst political crisis in decades deepens. Protests broke out in various areas on Monday after they were imprisoned and a government walk-out was held on Tuesday. Catalonia is refusing to back down on independence and Madrid has asked Catalan leaders to renounce its symbolic declaration of independence by October 19. It is highly likely that Spain will impose direct rule on the autonomous region. Meanwhile, Catalonia's police chief remains under investigation after he was accused of failing to order his force to impose a ban on an independence referendum last month. The two pro-independence leaders who have been jailed are accused of helping to orchestrate protests. The Catalan government accused Madrid of taking political prisoners likening it to life under dictator General Franco, when Catalan culture was suppressed.

U.S. judge blocks latest Trump travel ban order

Unites States, Oct 18 (ANI): A federal judge blocked President Donald Trump's third attempt to impose travel restrictions on individuals entering the United States. The open-ended ban that was announced last month, targeted people from Libya, Somalia, Chad, Iran, Syria, Yemen, and North Korea and certain government officials from Venezuela. U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson said in his ruling, on Tuesday, that the policy "suffers from precisely the same maladies as its predecessor: it lacks sufficient findings that the entry of more than 150 million nationals from six specified countries would be 'detrimental to the interests of the United States." The White House immediately hit back in a statement calling the court order dangerously flawed. It also mentioned that it undercuts the President's efforts to keep the American citizens safe. The ban was a latest version of a policy, which was first introduced by executive order in January and originally targeted seven Muslim-majority count

Somalia bomb attack: Death count tops 300

Mogadishu (Somalia), Oct 17 (ANI): Somalia's deadliest attack in a decade killed more than 300 people after twin bomb explosions in Mogadishu. The death toll steadily increased since Saturday, when the blasts exploded at two busy junctions in the capital city. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the blasts but Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, which is allied to al-Qaeda, has staged regular attacks in the country. The weekend attacks are the bloodiest since the group began its insurgency against Somalia's UN-backed government in 2007. A spokesman for the Aamin Ambulance service informed that it was proving difficult for people to find their friends and relatives as they were just finding unrecognisable body parts. A doctor at Mogadishu's Madina hospital said 258 deaths have been recorded by them out of which 160 bodies could not be recognised and were buried by the government on Sunday.
