Nepal, Feb 26 (ANI): Nepal lifted economic blockade earlier this month, resuming trade ties between the two neighbours. The supply of essential commodities from India to Nepal brought cheer among traders. The economic blockade cost the country 105 billion (Nepalese Rupee). The prolonged agitation in Nepal led to shortage of essential commodities including fuel. Normality is returning to the Himalayan country, rejoicing its people.
Lahore, Feb 26 (ANI): The Samjhota Express service, which was suspended due to security concerns following protests in Haryana, resumed its operation. India had suspended the services of Samjhota Express, which runs between Pakistan and India twice a week, on February 22, following widespread protests by the Jat community. Taking about the delay, one of the passengers Sughran Bibi said she had brought her mother-in-law to meet her relatives in Karachi, adding the disturbance in the train service had made them very uncomfortable as they were unprepared for the cold. While another passenger Hamza said their tickets were confirmed, but at midnight they got news that the train service had been suspended due to which he spent five days in travelling.
Waziristan, Feb 25 (ANI): Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif ordered the commencement of the last phase of an ongoing military operation in Waziristan. The operation is aimed at clearing the remnants of terrorists from their hideouts in deeply forested ravines in order to sever their links with their abettors anywhere across the country. Sharif gave these directions during his visit to the Shawal area of North Waziristan to review the progress of the operation.
Nepal, Feb 24 (ANI): Madeshis in Nepal's Terai region are unable to procure cooking gas even when India's supply side resumed after prolonged agitation by the ethnic minority community which lasted for nearly six months. Although several trucks loaded with LPG (Liquefied Petroleum gas) cylinders entered through Birjung border, Madeshis claim that they do not get cooking gas for consumption. The uneven distribution of cooking gas has made life difficult for the Madeshis. The supply system was badly hit due to border blockade by the Madeshis in southern Terai region, resulting in a shortage of essential commodities, including petrol and cooking gas. The Madeshis have demanded that the Nepal government must prioritize the availability of cooking gas for them at the earliest.
Karachi, Feb 21 (ANI): Pakistan's marine forces have arrested 88 Indian fishermen and took sixteen boats into custody for allegedly violating the country's territorial waters in the Arabian Sea. A police official said the fishermen, who were arrested on Friday night, have been handed over to Docks Police Station in Karachi for necessary legal action. The arrested fishermen were charged under the Foreign Act and Fisheries Act. The fishermen, who belong to Gujarat, will be produced them before a magistrate on Sunday. India and Pakistan share an extensive oceanic border with each other which is poorly defined, resulting in fishermen on both sides inadvertently crossing over to the other side while netting their catch.
Nepal, Feb 19 (ANI): The family of Sohan Shah who was killed by Nepal police on September 1, 2015 accuses the government of not providing any compensation. Sohan Shah Kalwar who was fighting for Madeshi rights was shot by police when he was sitting at his home. Six months later, the victim's family claims they are in miserable state and the government has not come up with any terms to compensate the loss. Anita Devi says she has not been able to send her children to school ever since her husband passed away. She said that managing day-to-day life had become a herculean task. In the southern Terai region of Nepal, the Madeshis have been protesting for equal representation in the newly formed constitution that was promulgated in September last year. The Madeshis charter includes redrawing of the boundaries of the provinces in Terai region, fixing of electoral constituencies on the basis of population and proportional representation. Ankara, Feb 18 (ANI): A car bomb blast killed at least 28 people in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Wednesday night. Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said the explosion, which targeted an army convoy, injured at least 61 people. Noury, a local resident was only 300 meters away from the explosion site when the bomb went off, having driven past just 20 seconds earlier. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack, vowing to take military action against the perpetrators and their supporters. The Turkish army has been shelling Kurdish forces in Syria for days. Turkey sees those forces as an offshoot of its arch foe the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
Sweden, Feb 18 (ANI): An explosion severely damaged part of a building that housed a Turkish cultural association in a Stockholm suburb late on Wednesday. A police spokesman said that no injury has been reported yet. He added that no one has been arrested. The police officials further informed that all the windows of the centre were blown out and technicians were on site to investigate the cause. The centre was located in the basement of a building in Fittja, in southwest Stockholm. According to local media reports, witnesses had seen a person throw an object at the building. Media reports also said there was increased security around other Turkish association premises as well as mosques in the Swedish capital. Earlier on Wednesday, 28 people were killed and dozens wounded in Turkey's capital Ankar awhen a car laden with explosives detonated next to military buses near the armed forces' headquarters, parliament and other government buildings.

Birgunj, Feb 13 (ANI): Even after six months of prolonged agitation, Madhesis are still fighting for their rights. To make the protest more unified, six major Madhesi forums have formed an alliance so that the government can be pushed to act on their demands. The alliance also took out a torch rally in Birgunj's Ghantaghar area. The alliance is planning to hold a joint protest outside parliament and government offices. Though the border blockade is over, the ongoing discussions between the government and protesting parties over the charter have failed to yield any result. The stand-off is likely to dominate talks between India and Nepal during the next week's visit to New Delhi by Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.

Canberra, Feb 11 (ANI): Minister for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, said Australia assured of providing full support to their mission of providing access to affordable energy to every citizen. Goyal was speaking at a news conference after holding an Energy Security Dialogue with Australian Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia, Josh Frydenberg, in Canberra. Goyal is leading a delegation for the third India-Australia Energy Security Dialogue, which is being held from February 8-11. He also presented the idea of Australia providing gas to India on affordable rates. During the news conference, Frydenberg mentioned that though the Australian Government could not determine the prices of gas, a regulatory framework could be made that can facilitate lower prices.

The Southern Terai region of Nepal was simmering with protests for the past five months as the ethnic Madeshis felt their interests were marginalized in the newly formed constitution that was promulgated in September last year. The Madeshis have been demanding redrawing of boundaries of new provinces, fixing of electoral constituencies on the basis of population and proportional representation in the newly adopted constitution. Political instability in Nepal led to huge economic losses to the country as all the border trade points were blocked by the protesters choking supply of essential commodities.

Kathmandu, Feb 09 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday paid homage to former Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. Koirala will be honoured with a state funeral and will be cremated on Wednesday. He died of a cardiac arrest after suffering from a bout of pneumonia on Tuesday morning. The Government of Nepal expressed shock over the untimely demise of the former prime minister and offered its heartfelt condolences on his death.

Koirala was also being treated for tongue cancer. He is credited with promulgating the new constitution of Nepal in September last year. His body will be taken to party's central office in Kathmandu and kept there for last tributes from party cadres and others.
