Kuala Lumpur, Nov 22 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs Secretary East Anil Wadhwa said on Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on strong commitment is required for cyber security network by the East Asia Summit members. He was speaking at the 10th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur. Prime Minister Modi also highlighted various other issues like terrorism, security co-operation and freedom of navigation in international waterways, RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) and the contentious South China Sea.
Dhaka, Nov 22 (ANI): Bangladesh executed two opposition leaders early on Sunday for war crimes committed during the 1971 war to break away from Pakistan, a senior police official said, in a move likely to draw an angry reaction from supporters. The police said that both the leaders were hanged simultaneously on two separate platforms. Islamist opposition leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, former legislator from former premier Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), were hanged shortly after President Abdul Hamid rejected their appeals late on Saturday for clemency. Mujahid, 67, of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, and Chowdhury, 66, were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail. The Supreme Court had previously rejected their appeals against a death sentence imposed by a special tribunal for genocide and torture of civilians during the conflict. The Border Guard Bangladesh paramilitary force has been deployed across the country to tighten security.

Takoma Park, Nov 22 (ANI): Indian-U.S. aid worker Anita Datar was one of the many who were killed in the attack on a luxury hotel in Bamako, Mali, where armed Islamist militants took hostages on Friday, the U.S. State Department said. Datar, 41, is believed to be the only Indian-American among the 19 people killed. Datar was a senior manager at Palladium Group and a founding member of Tulalens, a not-for-profit organization connecting under-served communities with health services. Six Americans were recovering safely from their injuries and U.S. Special Forces assisted in the rescue efforts, U.S. officials said earlier. However, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier confirmed that all 20 Indians among the hostages were safely evacuated.

Brussels, Nov 21 (ANI): Belgium raised the alert status for its capital Brussels to the highest level on Saturday, shutting down its subway and warning the public to avoid crowds because of a "serious and imminent" threat of a terror attack. It comes a week after the Paris attacks carried out by Islamic State militants, of whom one suspect from Brussels is said by authorities to be highly dangerous. The city was placed on the top level "four" in the government's threat scale after a meeting of top ministers, police and security services. Belgian military was seen in force on Brussels' streets protecting population centres such as hotels, including the Radisson Blu. Several people were killed during an attack on the Radisson Blu in the Mali capital Bamako on Friday. Police were also out in heightened numbers. Russia/Syria, Nov 21 (ANI): Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 600 rebels had been eliminated as a result of cruise missile strikes at targets in Syrian Deir ez-Zour province. It was not clear when the strike was carried out. Russia had doubled the number of aircraft's in its Syria operation to 69, Shoigu added. A video released by the ministry showed 16 missiles being launched from three aircrafts. The Russian air force have flown 394 sorties and hit 731 targets in Syria in the last three days, the head of the Russian air group in Syria said on Friday. He said the Russian military air fleet in Syria was reinforced by 8 Su-34 bombers and a unit of SU-27SM3 jet fighters. Another video published by the defence ministry on Friday showed signs 'For our guys' and 'For Paris' being written on a bomb. The description by the defence ministry said it was a message from Russian mechanics and pilots at Hmeymim sir base in Syria to Islamic State militants.

Bamako, Nov 21 (ANI): Following the deadly terrorist attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in the capital Bamako, the government has declared a 10-day nationwide state of emergency in Mali. Security forces have assessed the damage at the Radisson Blu hotel after the siege by alleged Islamist gunmen ended. The bodies of suspected attackers were carried out, while troops brandishing AK47s manned the hotel lobby. Around 27 people were reported dead after Malian commandos stormed the hotel seized by the gunmen to rescue 170 people, many of them foreigners, trapped in the building. The jihadist group Al Mourabitoun, allied to al Qaeda and based in the desert north of the former French colony, claimed responsibility for the attack. Mali has been battling Islamist rebels for years. Bursts of gunfire were heard as the assailants went through the hotel room by room and floor by floor.
