Pakistan, Oct 1 (ANI): Tight security was in place as visiting Bangladesh women's cricket squad played the first T20 international against host Pakistan, which Pakistan won by 28 runs, kicking off a series in Karachi. Pakistan and Bangladesh women squads played the first game with massive security deployed around Karachi's Southend Club, the venue of the game. A female crowd of mostly school girls and teachers turned up to witness the match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has promised foolproof security for the Bangladeshi women's team, with players staying at the same club where they will play their matches. Kainat Imtiaz, a woman cricketer, who had been part of Pakistan team at the 2010 Asian Games, said the series will portray Pakistan's image as a safe country abroad. Bangladesh Manager Mohammad Shafique Ul Haque and Sana Mir, captain of Pakistan's women team were happy for the crowd's response. The second T20 will be played on October 02.

Karachi, Sep 30 (ANI): The visiting Bangladesh women's cricket squad captain and host Pakistan held opening news conference after a 15-member Bangladesh women's team along with their officials flew into Karachi to play a series. Captain of Bangladesh Women's Cricket team Salma Khatun said that the team was happy to be in the country for a series. Sana Mir, captain of Pakistan's women team said she was happy for a crowd at home. Sana Mir-led Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in a nail-biting finish at the Incheon Asian Games final last year. During their stay in Pakistan, Bangladesh women will play two Twenty20 Internationals and as many ODIs. The action begins with the first T20 on Wednesday (September 30). All the matches will be played at Karachi's Southend Club Ground.

New York, Sep 30 (ANI): India, Japan and the United States in their first ever trilateral meeting on Wednesday highlighted the growing convergence of their respective countries in the Indo-Pacific region and called for working together on maritime security and disaster response. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and US Secretary of State John Kerry during the meeting underscored the importance of international law and peaceful settlement of disputes, freedom of navigation and overflight and impeded lawful commerce, including in the South China seas. The three countries also agreed to work together to maintain maritime security through greater collaboration. The three also praised their trilateral relationship.
Pakistan, Sep 30 (ANI): Pakistani hajis began arriving home to a warm but muted welcome. A pall had been cast on the normally-jubilant welcome ceremonies by a tragic incident during haj in which around 1,100 Muslims performing the annual ritual were killed, and hundreds more injured. The disaster, the worst to befall the haj in 25 years, happened when two large groups of pilgrims converged at a crossroads in Mina, a few kilometres east of Mecca, on their way to perform the "stoning of the devil" ritual at Jamarat. The hajis who returned via the first flights to Islamabad, Peshawar and Lahore were among those who had already performed the "stoning" ritual when the incident occurred, but most said panic spread across the camps as news of the disaster seeped in. Many hajis said, from what they had heard, the incident came about near a crossing, when a huge rush coming from opposite sides collided with each other. BRICS joint statement said-"The Foreign Ministers expressed their conviction that a comprehensive approach was necessary to ensure an effective fight against terrorism". They also urged concerted efforts to counter terrorism on a firm international legal basis, under the United Nation auspices. New York, Sep 30 (ANI): Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in New York on Wednesday. MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that after Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers carried forward the bilateral work. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who met his British counterpart David Cameron on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Summit, had extended an invitation to him to get actively involved in the 'Make In India' initiative. Frankfurt, Sep 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived in Frankfurt, Germany en route to New Delhi after concluding his 2-nation visit. PM Modi departed from New York after concluding his seven-day visit to the United States where he attended the 70th United Nations General Assembly meet. On his last day in the US, Modi held bilateral talks with the US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameroon and French President Hollande, in New York. Washington DC, Sep 29 (ANI): Scientists have found the first evidence that briny water may flow on the surface of Mars during the planet's summer months, NASA scientists confirmed. Scientists analyzing data from a NASA spacecraft have found the first evidence that briny water flowed on the surface of Mars as recently as last summer, a paper published on Monday showed, raising the possibility that the planet could support life. Although the source and the chemistry of the water is unknown, the discovery will change scientists' thinking about whether the planet that is most like Earth in the solar system could support present day microbial life. The discovery was made when scientists developed a new technique to analyze chemical maps of the surface of Mars obtained by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft. NASA's ongoing Mars rover Curiosity has already found evidence that Mars had all the ingredients and suitable habitats for microbial life to exist at some point in its past.

Modi earlier attended a lunch hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for the Heads of State and Government who will be in the UN for the first day of the annual General Debate. A wide range of issues were discussed during the meeting that included climate change, international terrorism, United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms and bilateral investments. Modi called for the immediate resumption of sale of generic drugs in the European Union, which have been suspended.
