Ireland's 'Yes' to gay marriage "heard loudly across the world": Kenny

Dublin, May 24 (ANI): Ireland "made history" when its people backed same-sex marriage by a landslide in a referendum, said Prime Minister Edna Kenny. After one of the largest turnouts in a referendum there, 62 percent of voters said 'Yes', making Ireland the first country to adopt same-sex marriage via a popular vote. 'Yes' supporters crowded into the courtyard of Dublin Castle to watch in blistering sunshine as results trickling in from around the country were shown on a large screen. They cheered with joy as the final tally was announced and then burst into a rendition of the national anthem. Government ministers waved a rainbow flag from the stage in front of the crowd and one lesbian senator proposed to her partner live on national television.

Anger in Pakistani Kashmir over Syed Ali Geelani's passport issue

Muzaffarabad, May 23 (ANI): The issue of passport for hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani which has kicked off a controversy in Indian Kashmir between the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP who rule the state, has also created a stir in the Pakistani side of the disputed valley. The PDP has said it would approach the Centre for giving passport to Geelani on "humanitarian" grounds while the BJP has said he should not be given the travel document till he "apologises" for his anti-national activities. Politicians in Muzaffarabad appealed to world powers to ask India to allow Geelani travel to the bedside of his ailing daughter. Ordinary citizens were equally disturbed by the issue.

Karachi bus attack accused sent on 14-day physical remand

Karachi, May 22 (ANI): A Pakistani Anti Terrorism Court granted 14-day physical remand to four suspects who were arrested in connection with the last week's Karachi bus attack that killed 45 minority Shi'ite Ismailis in Karachi. Police produced suspects before the court amidst tight security arrangement and their faces covered in cloth. The chief minister of Pakistan's southern Sindh province, Qaim Ali Shah said on Wednesday that police had arrested four members of a terrorists group who confessed their involvement in the recent bus attack. Shah said weapons and Jihadist literature was seized during the operation in which the suspects had been arrested. Shah appreciated police team and said that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would be formed to find out the name of the extremist group.

NGOs warn Nepal's children may be more vulnerable to trafficking after earthquake

Kathmandu/ Nuwakot, May 21 (ANI): Aid workers are warning that thousands of women and children in Nepal are facing an increased risk of being trafficked in the wake of two major earthquakes which left more than 8,500 people dead. They fear that the chaos caused by the quake, coupled with many children having lost their parents, will leave some vulnerable to traffickers in the country. Davinder Kumar, Global media manager of Plan International said keeping the children safe from child traffickers was a major challenge. Some survivors living in tents after their houses were flattened by the April 25 earthquake, said they were concerned about the safety of their young children who they say are most vulnerable. Mokki Baya Mano, global spokeswoman for World Vision International, also cautioned about the heightened risk for trafficking. PM Modi departs for India from South Korea

Busan, May 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday departed for India from Busan Gimhae International Airport for India after completing his three nation-six day tour. Modi interacted with the officials at the airport and got pictures clicked with them before boarding his flight back home. Earlier he also met the Mayor of Pohang in Busan city of South Korea. Both the leaders were led by a delegation and official talks were held between them. Modi meets Hyundai Chairman and Samsung CEO in South Korea

Seoul, May 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met business tycoons from South Korea's largest conglomerates, including Hyundai and Samsung. The manufacturing giants operate plants in India where they enjoy sizeable shares of the vast consumer market for cars, smartphones and home appliances. Modi is looking to secure promises of bigger investments as part of his "Make In India" campaign. He met South Korea's largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor Company chairman Chung Mong-Koo. Hyundai Motor Company, operates two plants in Chennai and expanding that investment was reportedly high on the agenda during the meet. The PM also met the head of Samsung's mobile unit JK Shin. He is expected to help accelerate the South Korean firm's reported plans to build a third plant in India, one of the world's fastest-growing handset markets.

PM Modi takes tour of picturesque Cheonggyecheon Stream in Seoul

Seoul, May 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Cheonggyecheon Stream and took a tour of the modern public recreation space in downtown Seoul city of South Korea. PM Modi visited the stream and also witnessed paintings on showcase there. He also then posed with Former South Korean PM Han Seung-soo at the spot. India and South Korea hold delegation level talks

Seoul, May 18 (ANI): Delegation level talks were held between India and South Korea on Monday. The delegates led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Park Geun-hye took several major bilateral decisions.
