Dhaka, Oct 19 (ANI): Former President APJ Abdul Kalam said that making righteous citizens is joint mission for India and Bangladesh, while both the nations should work towards achieving value-system. While addressing the 110th founding anniversary celebration of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, Kalam said building value-system is a requisite for the development of a nation. Kalam said it is important to construct the psyche of adolescents in the right manner.
Finland, Oct 15 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Finland on a two-day official visit after completing his visit to Norway. He was received by Secretary of State Peter Stenlund at the airport in Helsinki. Mukherjee is accompanied by a high level delegation to Finland where he is expected to meet Finnish president, prime minister, foreign minister and the speaker. He will address a Business Seminar in Helsinki and attend an official lunch hosted by its Mayor. He will also visit 'Arktikum' museum, Arctic Science Centre, Rovaniemi and cross the Arctic Circle. Mukherjee is to return to India on October 17.
Dhaka, Oct 15 (ANI): India's cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar unveiled the logo of Dhaka Premier League cricket club 'Legends of Rupganj' in Bangaldesh. The batting maestro, who arrived on a one-day visit to the country, unveilied the logo at a hotel in Dhaka. After unveiling the logo, Tendulkar thanked the people of Bangladesh for the love and respect. The last time Tendulkar was in Dhaka, he scored his 100th international century during the Asia Cup in 2012. Upon arriving in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, he was taken by a helicopter to Rupganj, a sub-district of Narayanganj. There Tendulkar attended a health awareness programme organised by UNICEF at a local high school.

Hong Kong, Oct 06 (ANI): Pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong started to pull back as the authorities warned they were determined to get the Asian financial hub back to work after more than a week of unrest. Some protesters left the Mong Kok area of the city, pulling back from the scene of recent clashes with those who back the pro-Beijing government. Hundreds of demonstrators still remained camped out on the streets, as civil servants returned to work in the government's headquarters. Fearing a crackdown as city leaders have called for the streets to be cleared so that businesses, schools and civil servants could resume on Monday, other protesters who have paralysed parts of the former British colony with mass sit-ins also pulled back from outside Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's office.
New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): The tension in the Mong Kok district of Hong Kong was evident in the wake of the clashes overnight between pro-democracy protesters and their opponents. The democracy campaigners are vowing to carry on regardless. Some are accusing the pro-Beijing opposition of orchestrated harassment. Police said they'd arrested 19 people since Friday, including suspected members of the infamous Triad gangs. The pro-democracy protesters are demanding the resignation of Hong Kong's chief executive, which he's rejected. They also want China to reverse a decision to hand-pick the contenders in the 2017 election for a new chief executive, which Beijing opposes.
Dhaka, Oct 02 (ANI): Festive fever gripped Bangladesh as devotees congregated at temples and community marquees to offer prayers to mother goddess Durga across the country. Devout Hindus of all ages offered prayers to the goddess during the celebrations for Durga Puja. Among the prominent spots was the shrine of Ramakrishna Mission in Dhaka. The rituals commenced with Kumari Puja where young girls are worshipped as incarnation of the Goddess. Hundreds of members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh performed the Kumari Puja, which is a part of their biggest festival Durga Puja. The word 'Kumari' which means virgin is a name of the goddess Durga as a child.

Kabul, Oct 01 (ANI): Two Taliban suicide bombers attacked the Afghan capital on Wednesday, killing at least seven people and wounding more than 15, government officials said, a day after the new government and the United States signed a long-delayed security agreement. Afghanistan's interior ministry said the targets of were an army bus and a vehicle carrying Afghan army personnel. The attack in the west of the city, close to Kabul university, was the more serious of the two. It destroyed an army bus and shattered shop windows, killing at least seven, the defence ministry said. Several people were injured in the attack in the eastern part of Kabul.
Washington DC, Oct 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama discussed trade issues, Ebola crisis and the fight against Islamic State militants during an Oval Office meeting. Modi said he sought Obama's support for continued openness and ease of access for Indian services companies in the US market, and he said the two leaders had a candid discussion about a trade agreement reached in Bali last year. Obama said that both the leaders had discussed issues of trade, maritime rules, space exploration, science besides working together on Ebola crisis in West Africa. Obama also discussed threat posed by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Middle East. He said that the two leaders had discussed on how to have a successful peaceful transition of power in Afghanistan post 2014.

Akbaruddin said Obama and Modi discussed an array of issues during an Oval Office meeting including the plans on expansion of affordable renewable energy. However, answering a question on countering terrorism and the big terror groups, the joint secretary of foreign ministry, Vikram Doraiswami, said India is not joining the coalition. Kabul, Sept 30 (ANI): Afghanistan will on Tuesday sign a crucial security agreement allowing the United States to leave a small contingent of troops in the country beyond this year, US officials said. Speaking in Kabul, White House counselor John Podesta said it was a positive move. The bilateral security agreement, or BSA, will allow nearly 10,000 US troops to remain in Afghanistan after the international combat mission ends on December 31.
