Uganda sends more medical personnel to Ebola-hit West Africa

IANS Kampala

Uganda has sent additional 30 health workers to Ebola-hit West African countries to help combat the deadly hemorrhagic fever that has left thousands of people dead, a top government official said here Monday.

Jane Ruth Aceng, the Director General of Health Services, told Xinhua in an interview that the additional health workers drawn from the ministry of health, Uganda Red Cross Society and Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) will help in containing the Ebola in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

"We made a commitment as a country and our development partners to support the Ebola hit countries. The team will help in containing the virus," said Aceng.

The deadly virus has left close to 5,000 people dead and over 10,000 others infected since the outbreak in the region, according to the World Health Organization.
