During a meeting of party leaders chaired by BSP supremo Mayawati, it was decided to stage demonstrations at all district headquarters on July 22 against the hike in prices of petrol and diesel, party sources said.

Addressing the meeting, Mayawati dubbed the recent hike in fuel prices as an "anti-farmer and anti-poor move", they added.

"It will result in hike in prices of essential commodities, which will directly affect the common people," the sources quoted her as saying.

The BSP supremo directed the party office-bearers, MPs and MLAs to protest against the centre's decision and organise demonstrations at all district headquarters on July 22.

The UPA government, on July one, raised petrol prices by Rs 4 per litre and diesel rates by Rs 2 a litre.
