Was Gadkari taking a swipe at the Bihar government?
"Mid-career training should be mandatory for promotion of highway engineers to next higher levels," the road transport minister Gadkari said on Tuesday.
The road transport minister also said the government is contemplating to create a Motor Vehicle Accident Fund for hit and run cases
Gadkari said that monitoring and review at the official level needs greater attention and focus.
Addressing an event at Manesar in Haryana's Gurgaon district, he also said the expressway will cut the travel time between Delhi to Mumbai by almost half
Senior officials of the ministry, NHAI, state governments, contractors, concessionaires, and consultants attended the review meeting
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways VK Singh will also attend the meeting

"If we want to become a $5 trillion economy, we have to increase the domestic production of these things instead of importing them," he said.
The NHAI also raised claims of Rs 145.33 crore, excluding interest, against the concessionaire on account of delays and other issues
"Those non-productive, non-performing, dead assets in the Government ... should be shown the exit door. There should not be any hesitation", the minister said
He said positive and development orientated approach, transparency, corruption-free system, fast track decision making process and social and national commitment will lead to good governance.
"The turnover of khadi and village industries is Rs 75,000 crore at present. Steps are on to take it to Rs 2 trillion in five years," Gadkari said

The union minister also recounted highways and other developmental projects in his speech
Gadkari said his ministry is getting around Rs 14,000 crore to fix problems in the "black spots" of highways where repeated accidents take place.
"We will spend Rs 2 trn in infrastructure projects in this fiscal (2019-20) and Rs 3 trn in the next fiscal (2020-21) to boost the economy and generate employment in thousands," Gadkari said
