Honda lines up Rs 260 cr to upgrade sales network with SUV push on anvil

Japanese automaker Honda along with its dealer partners plans to invest around Rs 260 crore to upgrade its dealerships across India to make them more premium as it gears up to drive in sports utility vehicles in the market starting next year, as per a senior company official. Honda's dealer network in the country currently comprises 330 facilities in 242 cities. The company, which is present in the country through a wholly-owned unit, had initiated the project in 2019 but it had to be scaled down due to the impact of the pandemic on the dealers' business. "With COVID situation improving a lot, we have renewed our focus on revamping the entire sales network and putting it on a fast track. There are still some challenges about capacity and time, but our effort is to maximise the number of revamped outlets in this year and next year," Honda Cars India Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Kunal Behl told PTI in an interaction. Automobile retail sales in India increase by 8.31% in August: FADA

Retail sales of automobiles in India grew 8.31 per cent in August this year on the back of increase in registrations of vehicles across all major segments, automobile dealers' body FADA said on Thursday. As per data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total vehicle retail sales in the country stood at 15,21,490 units last month as compared to 14,04,704 units in August 2021. Passenger vehicles (PV) retail sales stood at 2,74,448 units as compared to 2,57,672 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 6.51 per cent. Two-wheeler (2W) retail sales also grew by 8.52 per cent at 10,74,266 units in August 2022 as against 9,89,969 units in the same month last year, it added. FADA said the three-wheeler (3W) segment witnessed the highest growth rate last month posting 83.14 per cent increase at 56,313 units, up from 30,748 units in the same month a year ago.
