If you've been using the Bandra-Worli Sea link to get back home after a hard day's work, you wouldn't have missed the pink hues that this engineering marvel acquires after 7:30 pm everyday. So what's going on? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and leading skin care products manufacturer, Estee Lauder, has taken on the task of lighting up the sea link everyday between October 5 and 12, in its bid to create awareness about this disease and to stress on the importance of its early detection.

The theme of Estee Lauder's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which turns 20 this year, is "Believe in a world without breast cancer."

The campaign is active in more than 70 countries, including India. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link thus joins the league of around 600 international landmarks that have been illuminated for this cause, such as  the Empire State Building in New York, Sydney Opera House, the Louvre Museum in Paris, Burj Al-Arab (Dubai) Beijing Olympic Pool, Cristo Redentor (Rio, Brazil), Tokyo Tower, and the Parliament Building in Ottawa, Canada.

The campaign works closely with local organisations in the regions where it is active. In Mumbai it has been involved with the Women’s Cancer Initiative – Tata Memorial Hospital and Ogaan Cancer Foundation.
