Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav felicitated the medal winners for India at London Olympics here on Wednesday.

The ceremony, organised by the Sahara India Group, witnessed the feting of all the six medal winners — Vijay Kumar (shooting), Sushil Kumar (wrestling), Gagan Narang (shooting), Saina Nehwal (badminton), Mary Kom (boxing) and Yogeshwar Dutt (wrestling).

While Vijay Kumar and Sushil Kumar — winners of silver medals — were awarded 3 kg of gold, others were awarded 2 kg of the yellow metal for their bronze medals.

The event saw live performances by Sonu Nigam and choreographer Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe.

Congratulating the sportspersons, Yadav announced the state government would also organise a similar felicitation ceremony for them.

Subrata Roy, chairman, Sahara Group, urged the media to give more coverage to other sports as well, along with cricket. He announced that Sahara would be setting up a sports centre of international level at Aamby Valley, where budding sportspersons will be given world class training.
