Apollo ties up with New South Wales university for e-course

BS Reporter Hyderabad
The Apollo Hospitals Group and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, today announced their collaboration to offer postgraduate diploma courses in healthcare management through the e-learning mode to the practicing medical professionals in India. Apollo's medical e-learning initiative, Medvarsity, has tied up with the UNSW for this purpose.

The collaboration involves an initial focus on infectious disease management as there is a dearth of specialists in this area apart from a huge knowledge gap that exists in dealing with these disease situations in the country, according to Dilip Mathai, dean, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.

While the Australian university will prepare course modules and learning material, Apollo would provide contact programmes including hands-on training for those who enroll for the e-learning courses.

The courses will be available for practicing medical professionals outside India as well, particularly in countries where Apollo has a presence through its hospital network.

Mathai, who is a specialist in infectious diseases, said the e-learning course in infectious diseases was particularly relevant for rural areas where a good clinical examination would result in an early diagnose of such diseases. The Medvarsity is also discussing with other hospitals to make them partner in offering these courses.

"UNSW and Apollo knowledge team have worked together to develop an exceptional curriculum," Professor Peter Smith, UNSW dean of medicine, said.
