Finally, corporates seem to have developed a liking for Gollywood, or Gujarati film industry. While Anil Ambani-controlled Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) and Ultra Movies have already entered into Gujarat film production, Cinemax is weighing options to venture into films in Gujarati language.
Ultra Movies has already made one Gujarati film sometime back and Cinemax is also talking to few players to produce Gujarati films, well-known Gujarati film director Govindbhai Patel said while announcing a Gujarati film Dholi Taro Dhol Vage, which is produced by Big Pictures, a part of ADA Group.
It is the first regional movie to be released by ADA Group. The film is slated for release on 28 October this year.
The advent of big companies is poised to bring a sea change in Gollywood. Earlier the quality of Gujarati used be poor due to a host of reasons, including budget limitations. With big players entering the scene, quality of films in Gujarati language will improve, said Patel.
Corporates will bring in organised efforts in marketing and distribution of Gujarati films, which will ultimately increase the reach of the films in the state, said Mahesh Ramanathan, chief operating officer, Big Pictures.
