Creative Portico targets kids

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Ahmedabad
Capitalising on the growing home textiles market for children, Mumbai-based Creative has begun obtaining licences for popular animated characters to be used on its home textile products.

In recent times, the company has obtained licences for Barbie and Hotwheels from Matel, Mickey mouse from Disney, Power Puff Girls, Ben10 from Cartoon Network, and Spongebob from Nickelodeon among others.

Rajiv Merchant, CEO (domestic business division), Creative Portico, said from being non-existent, the market for children's home textiles had suddenly shot up in the state. Nearly 20-25 per cent of the company's business now comes from this segment.

Mostly sourced from Asian countries, the company is seeing a spurt in sales of animated towels, bedsheets, pillow covers, comforters and curtains in the state.

"The home textiles market for children is poised to touch a three-digit figure," added Merchant. Bedding accounts for 30 per cent of the company's revenues while pillow covers and towels contribute 10 per cent each. The remaining comes from bedsheets.
