HC slaps Rs 52,000 fine on Marico

"The plaintiff (Marico) would pay costs assessed at Rs 52,000 to the defendant (Dabur)," said Justice Sanjib Banerjee while passing the order after observing that Marico did not wished to proceed further in this case.
Marico had approached the court last month through a civil suit and had alleged that Dabur was copying its popular coconut hair oil brand Parachute in an advertisement of Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil.
Marico had requested the court to pass an interim order to restrain Dabur and immediately withdraw the advertisement in print and electronic media.
However, the court had refused to pass the interim order. Later, Marico submitted before the court its decision not to proceed in this case and after observing it the bench dismissed the its petition and directed the company to pay Rs 52,000 as cost to Dabur.
