BS Reporter Raipur

Delhi-based Jindal Water Infrastructure (JWIL) has bagged Rs 156-crore contract for water supply in the proposed new capital of Chhattisgarh.

“As many as five companies participated in the bid and finally, the JWIL was awarded the contract to develop water infrastructure in the Naya Raipur (new capital),” a senior official with the Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) said. The authority has issued work order to the company, the official added.

The JWIL would take up the project on Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT) model. The project is likely to start soon after the monsoon while the company has to complete the work within the stipulated period of two years.

Sources said that the company would set up intake well on Mahanadi to cater the water requirement of the new capital.
Under the project, it would also build a water treatment plant besides laying water supply pipeline in the new capital area that also comprise 61 villages.

After the completion of the first phase of work, the company will start supplying 52 million litres per day (MLD) of water in the new capital zone. Sources said that JWIL would take care of the maintenance for eight years.

The work for building up the new capital is moving on fast track. The NRDA had set a target to shift the capital complex that would house the state secretariat and mantralaya by June 2010.

Naya Raipur is the coming up about 20 kilometres from the existing capital city — between two national highways NH6 and NH 43. With world-class infrastructure, the new capital would be spread in an area of about 8,000 hectares.
