Jubilant acquires intermediate company

Jubilant Organosys, one of the largest contract research and manufacturing services(CRAMS)player in the domestic pharmaceutical sector, has acquired Specialty Molecules Pvt Ltd, a niche specialty intermediate manufacturing company with manufacturign units at Ambarnath near Mumbai, for about Rs 20 crore.

Specialty Molecules is mainly engaged in manufacturing of pyridine derivatives that are used in pharmaceutical and other life science industry, which will help Jubilant to provide pyridine derivatives for its customers.Intermediate is a molecular entity formed from the preceding chemical reactions, in the manufacturing life cycle of a drug.

"This acquisition will strengthen our global leadership position in pyridine derivatives and our halogenation capabilities as we plan to sell and also use these specialty intermediates captively," said Shyam S Bhartia, chairman and managing director, Jubilant.

In April last year,  the New Delhi-based Jubilant Organosys had acquired US-based contract manufacturing company Hollister-Stier Laboratories for $122.5 million (about Rs. 500 crore).
