Logistics ail home shopping

BS Reporter New Delhi/ Chandigarh

Logistics seems to be the biggest bottleneck being faced by the country’s home shopping channels. Paritosh Joshi, chief executive officer of Star CJ Network India, maintains that logistic issues force his office to turn down half of the average 12,000 requests it receives a day.

Star CJ Network India Pvt Ltd is a partnership between Star Group and CJO Shopping Co Ltd. Star CJ Alive, the home shopping channel that is closing in one million customers in India, could have reistered far more numbers had logistic been not a problem. “It hurts our business when there is no common delivery facility,” Joshi says. “The delivery through postal department and courier department is still a challenge.”

Resolving the logistics issue can help the sector tap a huge potential and boost the growth of the Rs 1,000-crore home shopping industry. Even with such limitations, the industry is doubling in volume every year.

With a third market share in the country, Star CJ is looking to further strengthen its space in the industry. The network which has presence in a total of 50 cities and districts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana besides the union territory of Chandigarh. It is eyeing entering Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and more parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Star CJ Million Homes Week will see shopping celebrations offering more than the usual discounts and freebies to customers making purchases during the period.

The star attraction will be a surprise gift of products and additional discounts to the millionth and the one-million-and-first customers. The event, which started from January 30, ends tomorrow.
