BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad
Motorola chairman Edward J Zander today said the company was well-placed to grow on the strength of its intellectual capital, strong R&D and product innovation capabilities.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the company's new development centre, built to house about 1,000 engineering professionals here, Edward said Motorola would continue to attract top talent across the globe to develop best and innovative product line across its operations.

He said the Hyderabad development centre was world-class and can be compared to any such facility built by the company anywhere in the world.

"You may see that some of the future products coming from Motorola would be developed by the Hyderabad development centre itself," the Motorola chairman said while complimenting the state for its talent pool available here.

Speaking on the occasion Padmashree Warrier, chief technology officer and executive vice-president of the American multinational, said the Hyderabad centre, which started with a handful of people in the year 1998, has now grown to a strength of over 800 professionals.

The software development centre would work on the technology solutions that would go into handsets, networks and connected home products, she said.

Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who inaugurated the facility, urged Edward to consider setting up of its future manufacturing unit at Hyderabad.

"Though the state is going from strength to strength in the IT sector, it is lagging behind in the hardware development sector. Hence we urge you to consider Hyderabad as your next destination for manufacturing operations and the government would provide all support for the same," he said.

The company has invested over Rs 60 crore in the Hyderabad facility, built on 2.3 acres with 1.67 lakh square feet of office space.
