Nanotech set to explore its frontiers, impact on India

Nano-technologists from across the globe will debate in Bangalore on December 8 and December 9 the future of this technology and explore how this technology will be put to use. They will discuss on ‘Frontiers of Nanotechnology and its impact on India’ in the wake of it becoming potentially valuable for the common man and the society at large at the third edition of Bangalore Nano.
The event is being held with efforts from the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, under the guidance of Vision Group on Nanotechnology led by Prof C N R Rao, Honorary President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR)
The event will feature an exhibition and conference sessions addressed by internationally-acclaimed speakers and experts on Business Opportunities in Nanotechnology, Energy & Environment, Nano Medicine, Nano Electronics, and Nano Materials. Bangalore Nano 2010 will be two full days of presentations and discussions as well as interactive networking activities - a meeting place for the global scientists, industry, academia and government. Over hundred leading international and Indian companies will participate in Bangalore Nano 2010. Large international delegations are expected from Germany, the USA, Canada, Poland this year’s event. Germany is the country partner for the 2010 Nano event.
Ashok Kumar C Manoli, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of IT, BT and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, said, “The fast growing field of nanotechnology presents great potential for development in various sectors particularly in the areas of healthcare, environment, energy, agriculture, ICT, engineering and consumer goods. The global market for nanotechnology-based manufactured goods is expected to be $1.6 trillion by 2013. India and more specifically Karnataka will be a major global player in the field of Nanotechnology in the years to come. We are making an all-out effort to make Bangalore the Nano Tech Hub of India, just like as we have done in IT and BT.”
“Government of India has launched the Nano Mission aimed towards development of products and processes for national development, especially for safe drinking water, sensors development, drug delivery, to name a few. The Government of Karnataka is also in the process of setting up a Nano-Park to support the industry,” he added.

This year’s event will feature Research Industry Collaboration Hub (RICH) offering partnering opportunities for showcasing innovations in nanotechnology. RICH will facilitate podium presentations and one-to-one meetings for emerging entrepreneurs in Nanotechnology.
A special programme ‘Nano for the Young’ is also being organised in the event. Students from various engineering, medical and bio-tech colleges across Bangalore can attend this special session which will be addressed by Prof. C.N.R. Rao along with other leading experts. The panel of experts would share with attendees the key aspects of Nanotechnology and the excitement that lies in Nano Research.
