As an environment friendly initiative, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has introduced digitally signed invoices for its product sale transactions taking place at its marketing terminal in Numaligarh, Assam.

A company press release said: “On a conservative count, considering NRL’s sales volume of Rs.11,000 crore annually, electronic invoicing process will reduce printing of 695,000 pages annually, equivalent to 4.3 tonnes of paper, resulting in saving of approximately 103 trees per year.”

The first digitally signed invoice was formally launched by P Padmanabhan, managing director of the company, at Numaligarh on June 21.

The press release further said that NRL was the first amongst oil public sector undertakings to implement this environment friendly initiative which would replace manually signed hard-copy invoices issued on pre-printed stationery in multiple copies, thus saving paper and doing away with non-essential printing.

NRL customers will now be able to access and download required information from the electronically stored database which would also be available to central excise and tax department.

NRL had introduced an internet portal for its customers to provide on-line access to their business transactions, ensuring better transparency in managing marketing operations earlier this year. The portal is also used by the customers for on-line indenting of their daily product requirement.
