Tally launches new version

Tally Solutions, a leading accounting software major in India, has announced the launch of its VAT compliant version Tally 9.
With the implementation of VAT in Tamil Nadu from January 1, 2007, the company has been handling 75 orders a day.
"We are planning to increase our sales to 125-150 orders a day by mid-February. Tamil Nadu has 20,000-25,000 Tally users, and we expect a growth of 40-45 per cent in the state in another three months," said Shoaib Ahmed, vice-president (South Asia sales), Tally.
"The new version has the facility to translate data into various languages. It currently incorporates 12 Indian languages as well as Malaysian and Indonesian," said T Pugal, general manager (research & development), Tally.
The version is available in two variants, 'gold' and 'silver'. The single-user version of Tally 9 'silver' is priced at Rs 9,900, while Tally 9 'gold' (multi-user) is priced at Rs 24,000. The existing Tally users have the option of upgrading their current versions to version 9.
Tally 8.1 version users would be able to upgrade their software for free, while the upgradation of single users from version 7.2 to version 9 will cost Rs 4,500 (plus tax), and multi-user upgradation will cost Rs 8,100 (plus tax).
The 6.3 version users will have to pay Rs 5,400 (plus tax) for single user upgradation and Rs 9,900 (plus tax) for multi-user upgradation. Users of version 5.4 will have to get new packages.
"Around 80 per cent of our Tally users are silver package customers, but due to the affordability of hardware, the number of multi-users has started increasing. We expect the number of 'gold' package users to increase to around 30-35 per cent by the end of 2007," Ahmed stated.
"We are currently selling 250 packages per day across the country and we expect our sales to increase to 1,000 per day by March 2007. The year-on-year growth of the company is 25-30 per cent and we expect it to increase to around 30-35 per cent in another three months. Our foreign market contributes to around 10 per cent of our business and we are looking at partnerships to increase our international business," he added.
Tally currently has 1,000 employees on its rolls, 200 of whom are in charge of updating various VAT requirements into Tally 9 on an ongoing basis.
