Tasmac to offer more Greenwich courses

BS Reporter Kolkata
Training and Advanced Studies in Management and Communications Ltd. or Tasmac will shortly tie up with University of Greenwich to introduce courses.

Giri Dua, chairman and managing director of Tasmac said: "We are in talk with University of Greenwich for the last 18 months and the talks are on the final stage. By October 20, everything will be finalised between the two institutions."

Maragaret Noble, pro vice-chancellor of The University of Greenwich, was in India to see Tasmac centres ahead of the deal. Initially, Tasmac in collaboration with Greenwich will introduce three master degree courses in computing: M. Sc in Computing, M. Sc in Computer systems and Networking and M. Sc in Enterprise Software Engineering.

Noble said "Initially we are starting with these three courses keeping in mind the demand of the Indian student and the Indian economy."

The one-year master degree courses had two semesters and cost £3000 excluding hostel charges. The cost of the Greenwich University degree through Tasmac cost only 15 per cent of the expenditure necessary to obtain the degree while staying in the UK and studying at Greenwich.

Greenwich had similar tie-ups with institutions in countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong, Greece and South Africa, but got the maximum number of students from India. The number was above 600 a year.

To help in placements, Tasmac would send students for project work to various companies where they could hope to be absorbed. Tasmac had earlier tied up with the University of Wales.

Tasmac would take in some 20 student for each course in the initial stage across three centres in India but might expand capacity later. The faculty would be selected jointly by Tasmac and University of Greenwich, while visiting faculty would come from UK during sessions.

The course would start by January 2007. Tasmac was planning a centre in Mumbai in addition to ones in Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata.
