Tcs Sets Up New Centre In Hungary

BUSINESS STANDARD

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the software and services arm of the Tata group, has opened a software development centre in Budapest, Hungary, taking the total number of TCS' offshore development centres to 24.

The new centre, which will have a strength of 100 software professionals by the end of the year, will undertake development work for its customers in Europe.

TCS, which will be hiring developers locally, plans to recruit 100 people every year till 2005, the company said in a press release.

Selection of Hungary as a location for the centre comes after a comparative study of other East European markets such as Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic. Hungary scored high on availability of good infrastructure, proficient resources and a large English speaking workforce, TCS said in a press release.

TCS chief executive S Ramadorai said that Hungary had been selected due to its high ranking among East European countries in terms of skilled workforce and potential European Union (EU) membership.

This is the first centre in Europe to have received certification from the GE Assessment team as a "Trusted GE Global Development Centre(GDC)" earlier this month.

TCS also has plans to provide merit scholarships to university students in Hungary for those interested in research and development, along with funding social welfare activities, the company said.
