TCS to set up 50-acre campus in Pune

Global IT consultancy and services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is to invest Rs 500 crore to set up a 5,000-seater campus in Pune, even as it is planning to hire 9,000 personnel from Maharashtra in the current financial year.

The Tata company is to set up the facility at Hinjewadi IT park and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government.

"TCS is a significant employer in Maharashtra and we welcome the company's decision to use the available talent pool and human resources of the state to drive its future growth plans," Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters, after the signing of the MoU here today.

The state wants to generate employment and create opportunities for other ancillary industries, which will help in boosting the state's economy, and for this purpose has offered infrastructural and other support for TCS, he said.

The facility would be set up Phase-III development project of Hinjewadi IT Park, which is a part of MIDC-promoted Special Economic Zone.

The company will invest upto Rs 500 crore in the facility to create a capacity of 5,000 seats. In the long-term, there are plans to ramp up the centre's capacity to 10,000 seats.

The new Hinjewadi facility will also house professionals from TCS' R&D and engineering services group. The company intends to hire 9,000 personnel, who would work on various projects and myriad technologies like Microsoft, Java, IBM, SAP, Oracle and Business Intelligence and  Engineering among others.

"Pune is emerging as a promising IT hub for companies and we plan to play an integral role in the further development of the local economy by working with academic institutions and help train and develop talent in the region and in the state," TCS MD and CEO S Ramadorai said.
