The TCS IPO should be very well received and will have a positive impact on the markets. It will be one of the largest private sector IPOs, which will help add depth to the market and specially to the IT sector with investors; big and small wanting to get a share of the pie.

It is one of the better software companies that we have and this IPO should be a good opportunity for small investors to get exposure to the technology sector as it is one of the leaders but I am not sure of the IPOs timing as investor sentiment is at a low just now.

If all goes well, TCS will get approvals from the regulator within 21 days from filing the draft prospectus. They then will have three months within which they have to come out with their public offering. The markets seem to be volatile now but should settle down after the Budget and the monsoons are also expected to be normal.

The primary market has shown that it has the appetite for big ticket IPOs and TCS, with its strong brand name and reputation in the IT industry, should be very well accepted by the public. A lot though will depend on the size of the IPO.

The TCS IPO should attract a lot of retail attention as the Tata brand name is very good and, traditionally, Tata public offerings have been fairly priced and well received.

I think the markets can absorb such a big issue with major participation coming in from institutional investors. The IT portfolio may be churned with funds getting into the TCS issue.
