Tuticorin port cargo traffic up 14.36%

The Tuticorin port handled 142.87 lakh tonnes of cargo traffic from April 2004 to February 2005 as against 124.93 lakh tonnes of cargo handled during the corresponding period of last year, registering an increase of 14.36 per cent.

In a press release, chairman of the Tuticorin Port Trust, N K Raghupathy, said the shipping ministry had fixed a target of 141.99 tonnes for April 2004 to March 2005 for the port. The port surpassed the target well before the proposed time, he said.

He said the port's container traffic also increased by 20.79 per cent from April 2004 to March 2005 compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal.
