BJP municipal councillor Vipul Hirpara from Jasdan municipality has been shot dead allegedly by a co-councillor here, police said today.
Hirpara was shot dead last night around 10 PM by councillor Ghanshyam Khacchar and seven of his men near Umiya temple in Chitaliya area when the victim was going home after offering prayers, they said.
Hirpara and Khacchar were locked in an old dispute, police said. "We have registered a complaint against Khacchar and seven others on the basis of a statement given by the deceased's father Vellabhai," Rajkot Rural SP Gagandeep Gambhir said. Police have made adequate security arrangements to avoid further flare-up between the two groups , she added.
