Intellectuals to hit Kolkata streets

Leading intellectuals of West Bengal Magsaysay awardee Mahesweta Devi, legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen, poet Shankha Ghosh will hit the streets on June 21 to register protest against the spurt in crime against women in the state.

Poet Shankha Ghosh, the main convenor of the rally, has called the rally which has received unanimous support from Mahesweta Devi, Mrinal Sen, actor Soumitra Chattopadhayay and others.

The rally will start at three pm in the evening from College Square area of Kolkata and will culminate at Esplande area.

Earlier, a team of intellectuals had visited the family members of Barasat rape victim and had assured full support to the family.
