7,000 homes for poor in MP

In view of the shortage of low-cost housing in Madhya Pradesh, the state housing board has planned to make 7,000 housing units available primarily to the economically-weaker sections and lower income group families within two years.
With the completion of these units, the government entity will become a Rs 500-crore company. There will also be a wide range of housing units for higher income groups.
The board has floated 78 schemes at different locations, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Sagar, Jabalpur, Dhar, Guna, Hoshangabad, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Katni, Seoni, Chhindwara, Satna and Itarsi.
A number of schemes are already at construction stage and by 2009-10 at least 2,000 dwelling units will be completed for the economically weaker sections and low income group families.
