Ahmedabad students dominate merit list

Nisarg Gandhi of Swastik Shishuvihar Higher Secondary School, Ahmedabad, topped the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board science exam. He secured 611 marks out of 650.
 
Neeraj Shah (with 601 marks) and Malhar Mehta (with 554 marks) of St Xavier's High School, Ahmedabad, secured the second and third ranks.
 
It was a near complete sweep by Ahmedabad. Out of the 16 students in the top 10 merit list, 10 students were from Ahmedabad. Three from Vadodara, two from Rajkot and one from Junagadh completes the top ten merit list.
 
Though 70,036 students took the exam this year, it was much less than the 71,968 students who wrote these exams last year.
 
Of the 51,678 first timers, 29,833 passed the exams. The pass percentage of the first timers stood at 57.72 per cent. The overall pass percentage for the science board examinations stood at 51.16 per cent.
 
Though the pass percentage of female students, 56.16 per cent, was much better than that of their male counter parts, 49.09 per cent, but the top ten list was dominated by the males students. While there were 12 male students in the top 10 list, there were only four females in the top-10 list.
 
The highest marks this has increased to 611 out of 650 from 604 last year.
 
The examinations were carried out across 80 centres in March this year. The highest pass percentage (87.6 per cent) was registered at the Ellisbridge centre number 4 centre, while the lowest of 5.19 per cent was recorded at the Devgadh Baria No: 23 centre.
 
Curiously, the number of registered cheating cases have also increased to 209 as compared to 128 last year.
