AP government charts plan for road safety

Chief Minister K Rosaiah has asked the officials to make short and long term plans to reduce accidents on national and state highways.
The government has decided to make the AP Road Safety Authority a statutory body and asked Nalsar to prepare a statute for it in three months after studying the road safety enforcement laws.
Rosaiah, who chaired the first meeting of the Road Safety Council, directed the transport department to set up driving tracks for training learners in all districts. He asked the officials to implement the rules strictly to bring down traffic mishaps apart from banning the plying of overloaded autos and jeeps on the highways.
Three roads - Anakapalli to Anandapuram (34 km), Renigunta to Rayalacheruvu (26 km) and Hyderabad to Bijapur (124 km) would be widened with the assistance from the World Bank, according to a press release.
