Assam to make healthcare free for poor

Gogoi says the state govt has already constructed 61 model hospitals and the services of 42 hospitals have already been dedicated to people

Assam will soon introduce Right to Health Services; where in free healthcare services would be given to all poor people, said state's chief minister, Tarun Gogoi. The spectrum of the services, further said Gogoi, would be gradually scaled up to cover all sections of the people of the state in future. "Providing affordable, accessible, accountable and quality healthcare services to all sections of the people has been a long cherished commitment and the government is working persistently to achieve this end," said Gogoi. He said with the Right to Health Services, the government would ensure basic healthcare to citizen of the state.

The chief minister said that the state government had passed on necessary instructions to the health and family welfare department to ensure better treatment, better medicines to reduce maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate and finally improving the overall health scenario of the state. He further said that with the existing medical college and hospitals and the four other proposed medical college and hospitals at Diphu, Dhubri, Nagaon and Lakhimpur, the government would be able to take healthcare services to the doorstep of everyone in Assam.

Reiterating his government's commitment to sustain social security schemes like Integrated Child Development Schemes (ICDS), Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) etc, Gogoi said that the state government would further provide financial incentives through several vocations to one lakh people of the state as their right to employment.

Gogoi was speaking at the inauguration of a 200-bedded district hospital at Sonapur, near Guwahati. He said that the state government has already constructed 61 model hospitals and the services of 42 hospitals have already been dedicated to the people.
