Ccras, Csir, Dri Sign Agreement For Ayurvedic Programme

BUSINESS STANDARD

The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Wednesday signed an agreement with the Deen Dayal Research Institute (DRI).

They will collaborate in a programme to develop better herbal formulations, to gather a community-level experience about efficacy and acceptability of ayurvedic formulations, to establish standardisation procedures and to improve processing and preserving techniques applicable to ayurveda.

According to the agreement, CCRAS will extend know-how relating to its clinical research programme on family welfare, chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus, bronchial asthma, rheumatoid arthritis), malaria, reproductive child healthcare and healthy ageing, etc.

The council will provide necessary specialised training in research methodology and will help in procuring specific equipment and requisite manpower.

CSIR will provide appropriate training and technical advice for the setting up of the laboratory and instrument facilities for physico-chemical standardisation of their ayurvedic formulations and preparations. CSIR will also assist DRI in developing agro-techniques for cultivating medicinal plants.

DRI, a New Delhi-based registered society, has set up a research institute, Arogyadham, at Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh) for the development of ayurveda in general and for better healthcare through herbal products.
