Chhattisgarh bans birds from Bengal

BS Reporter Kolkata/ Raipur
The Chhattisgarh government had banned the import of chicken from West Bengal to keep a tab on bird flu situation in the state.

"There is no need to panic as no case of bird flu has been reported from any part of the state. The decision to ban import of chicken from West Bengal is taken as a precautionary measure," a senior state government official said.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting and the order to this effect was issued late today evening, official sources said.

An alert has also been sounded in different districts as part of the precautionary measure.

Sources said that a huge quantity of chicken was imported from West Bengal by the local poultry farms.

The animal husbandry department has collected blood samples of chicken from various parts of the state and had send to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory, Bhopal, for testing, sources said.

The reports were awaited.
