Chhattisgarh private school management eyes govt's salary structure regulation

BS Reporter Kolkata/ Raipur

The private school management in Chhattisgarh is eyeing state government to regulate the salary structure of its teachers working at a nominal honorarium.

“The state government should fix the fee index for the private school that will help in providing higher salary for the teachers," Prem Shankar Gotia, spokesperson for Chhattisgarh Private School Management Association, said. He however admitted that in many private schools, the teachers are not well paid.

The association office bearers said because of many economically and financial constrains, many private schools could not award handsome salary to the teachers. In a few private schools, teachers are working even on an honorarium of Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per month.

There are 84 private schools registered with the association. "We exactly don't know under which salary structure the teachers is being paid at different schools, but it is something to do with the proposition of the fee collected from the students,” Gotia said, adding that many private schools are taking nominal fee from the students and accordingly paying proportionately to the teachers.

Gotia said the state government could help regulate the salary structure for the private teachers in Chhattisgarh. If the government fixed the fee index, the private school management could collect a fixed fee and pay a handsome salary to its teachers.

He categorically denied that private schools were collecting money without any reason from the parents in different heads. The statement adds significance as the state's education department had cracked whip on private schools following complaints of collecting money from the students in different pretext.

“There seems to be some communication gap that needs to be addressed immediately," Gotia said. The assocation has invited education minister Brijmohan Agrawal for a discussion on the issue and end the deadlock.
