Closer India-China ties seen

 In return for its support to India and other developing countries, China wants them to ensure that it does not have to undertake further commitments on agricultural and non-agricultural market access. India had agreed to support China, trade negotiators said.

 The two countries have already joined hands with like-minded groups on agriculture and the Singapore issues. Commerce and Industry Minister Arun Jaitley and the Chinese Commerce Minister Lu Fuyuan have held two rounds of deliberations in the last two days to discuss all issues on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiating agenda.

 An Indian government press release said during bilateral discussions with India, the Chinese minister had said new WTO members had already made heavy commitments by way of tariff cuts and it would be improper to expect them to undertake fresh obligations without giving them the benefits of special and differential treatment provisions.
