Employees' notice to DoT over transfer

Two employees of the Gujarat circle of the department of telecommunications (DoT) have issued a legal notice to the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and the department, alleging that the authorities did not adhere to a Cabinet decision that permitted them form being absorbed into BSNL after DoT and BSNL were separated in October 2000.

D R Langalia and S M Gabharani, senior telecom office assistants, have sought transfer to BSNL with immediate effect. The employees said they would approach the Gujarat High Court if the matter is not resolved.

Langalia said through a Cabinet decision, employees of DoT were asked to decide whether they wanted to be with the BSNL or the department.

"We opted for BSNL, but were transferred to DoT," Langalia said.

He said those who opted for government service needed to be absorbed through a procedure of the department of personnel.

Langalia said employees can be transferred to any part of the country within BSNL. But in this case, they have been transferred from BSNL to DoT without their consent, he said.
