Govt formation after consultation with allies: Karunanidhi

Our Regional Bureau Chennai
The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) said that a decision on the formation of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu would be taken after consultations with allies in the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA)

Addressing a press conference at the DMK headquarters, M Karunanidhi, president, DMK, said he would consult the leaders of the parties in DPA on the formation of a government.

Dedicating the victory to the party workers, allies in DPA and also to the media, he said his government would not follow a policy of planned vendetta against opponents, but would ensure the rule of law.

Assuring that all the poll promises of the DMK would be implemented, Karunanidhi promised to reinstate the scheme which provides assistance of Rs 10,000 towards the marriage expenses of poor girls. He added the new government would raise the assistance under the scheme to Rs 15,000. This scheme was scrapped by Jayalalithaa when she came to power, he added.

His government's top priority would be to rebuild or renovate slum clearance tenements, which are in poor conditions, he added.

Asked whether the party's manifesto was the 'hero' of the election, he answered that the election results had proved it.
