Gujarat in dire need of HR: CII summit

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Ahmedabad
With an aim to list out growth accelerators for Gujarat, the Confederation of India Industry organised a summit "" 'Gujarat Annual Day & Gujarat Economic Summit 2007: Accelerating Growth'.

Featuring panel discussions and presentations, the summit attempted to address issues like professional integrity, entrepreneurial excellence, among others.

Speaking about the summit, CII director, Amitabh Shrivastava said,"Among all the accelerators, we feel human resources is a dire need for growth of the state. Only with the successful management of human resources can other accelerators like healthcare, infrastructure or hospitality be encouraged further." The summit was co-organised by Young Indians, a CII initiative.

Encouraging the youngsters, who are part of the Young Indians, to maintain ethics and integrity in their future professions, Hema Hattangady, managing director, Conzerv Systems Ltd. said, "Integrity and ethics is doing right when no one else is watching. The emerging workforce has to focus more on integrity and ethics. Even the leaders need to set an example for the youngsters to emulate. Only then it is a true investment in human resource."

Meanwhile, Aditya Nataraj, project manager, Pratham, emphasised the need for reconstructing the primary education in the process of developing the human resources.

According to R Krishnan, head, international business division, Aptech, the industry that can augment the state's growth is information technology.

"IT industry needs the support of more public-private partnerships to scale up to meet its manpower requirements. We need to take a leaf out of the states like Karnataka, which have done well in developing human resources,"said Krishan.
